So the gov sells treasuries, with that money they go and buy mortgages. Effectively driving down mortgage rates to historic lows, 4.5% on the 30 is what they’ve said they want, people refi lower, housing prices put in a bottom and stabilize.
Inflation takes off coming close to or exceeding the Avg interest rate paid on all these mortgages the gov owns. That’s a loss in my book. With accelerating inflation the gov will be forced to raise interest rates hence mortgage rates will follow.
How is the gov gonna sell all those mortgages when better yielding paper can be had else where. They can’t it will be a net loss and taxes WILL have to rise.
