OA – thoughts on X. How do you play earnings calls whne the stock doesntr get movement? Wait for buyers to show up, or cut the trade and move on?
Does your option expire today?
NOV – so sounds like keep it on as long as its within my predefined range for the trade.
I was just playin.
I’m letting mine work,. This is constructive action.
It was the perfect question.
How’s X looking now. OA’s the man!
Boy, I feel like doubling down on my HOV position right here.
Doubled down
Me too…added somemore
Good luck matt
Finally GMCR broke 63 levels
Cheering section for APOL here…
OA, when would you consider you are “wrong” on this CLF trade? Is it if the price action breaks prior day’s low?
PHEW – FINALLY filled GS on the dip.
OA, I have been holding my ISRG Nov monthlies for a nice gain since the last few days. I still see it going up. Do you?
You made a nice call on this one. Wish I would have followed you in….
lanforce, I think you can still get in here. In fact I am thinking of doubling down with longer dated calls. Looks like a secular move upwards to me. But I could be wrong. Hope OA sheds some light too.
Don’t look now but ORCL quietly forming a solid base and peeking up. OA, would you buy it here? I am tempted.
Adobe is doing something very similar.
it is a high quality stocks day today.
Long ZNGA 3.70
Is this a play on GLUU ER?
Sorry for bombarding the message board. But head is flowing with ideas. The dow jones is outperforming IWM. But I remember your words to buy stocks that reflect that instead of buying beta index ETFs. In that spirit, I short listed the following stocks – NKE, HD and DIS. Their charts are looking really good to buy some monthly calls. OA, thoughts?
just [don’t over] “do it”
Most recent reference high for GMCR was 64.50. I anyone targeting above 65 for the current trade ?
& “Is anyone”
you’ve completely nailed APOL.
wow again.
Interesting take on GS (I’d post a link but it’s an etrade proprietary feed so likely wouldn’t work)
What Goldman’s position on Twitter IPO means
By David Weidner
Oct 29, 2013 12:19:14 (ET)
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s “top left” position for the Twitter initial public offering is more than just a plum assignment. It’s more validation for Chief Executive Lloyd Blankfein that a wave of scandal hasn’t dented the firm’s reputation among clients in the capital markets.
Goldman Sachs on Tuesday reportedly not only won the top spot on the highly anticipated initial public offering but will take home as much as $20 million in fees should the IPO price at the top of its $17-to-$20 estimated range. It’s a lopsided deal in favor of Goldman , according to a report on WSJ.com. No other underwriter will get more than $10 million in fees, according to the report.
The deal represents a massive vote of confidence in Goldman from Twitter’s founders. They obviously looked past the firm’s dented reputation as a “vampire squid” of the mortgage markets in the crisis.
More importantly, Twitter overlooked Goldman’s troubled private placement for Facebook Inc. in 2011, when leaks about the deal threatened to violate U.S. securities laws. Goldman ended up limiting that private Facebook placement to foreign investors, potentially a significant blow to Goldman’s bid for the top position on the Facebook IPO in May 2012. That spot was eventually awarded to Morgan Stanley , which came under fire for overpricing Facebook shares and for sharing with select customers research suggesting Facebook might not be worth its valuation estimates. Morgan Stanley had to pay a $5 million fine.
The Twitter assignment is not insignificant. Technology IPOs this year were up 74% through Sept. 13, compared with just 33% among IPOs from other sectors. Goldman ranked second globally among equity underwriters at the end of the third quarter, with revenue of $927 million, behind J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.’s $1.02 billion, according to Dealogic, but it ranked first in volume — underwriting $62.4 billion in offerings.
Those numbers refute critics, internal and external, who argue that Goldman hasn’t put clients first. Twitter has, and for now that’s all that matters.
just logged into account first time this week. damn am i bleeding.
Sorry ot hear – hopefully you’re at least in the APOL, GS, and GMCR trades ?
same here…..a lot of options positions are down 50-80%. And, don’t seem to have any winners
Same here. Trying the manage the bloodshed at this point. I don’t have GS or APOL. GMCR hasn’t moved enough to help anything. I’m waiting till the EOD but CRUS is starting to concern me. I have other positions and am trying to hold my breath till Nov.
Bloodshed?
I managed to miss some of those big winners so I’m not offsetting the losers to well. It’s the mix and number of positions I have taken and I’m trying to manage those but am finding I’m taking too many loses. I’m making some rookie mistakes at this point and know it. I need to reset, do a lessons learned and get ready for the rest of the year. Trust me, I know I still have a lot to learn.
Some days I feel like I ‘ve done this for thirty years, other days I feel like I ‘ve done this for one year thirty times. Been a choppy month for me and for most guys I know who do this.
If I had to integrate OA’s lessons into 3 succinct areas it would be:
1. Don’t enter a trade without a trade plan
2. Entry is everything – proper entry is the difference between a loss, a win, and a killing !
3. Take your losses SMALL and EARLY – the way OA trades, you will know early on if the trade is off (typically busting a lower low) – if you spot it early and concede the loss, you generally will have time to reclaim up to half your premium.
Here is a great video by Jeff on trade management – I typically re-watch it when the markets are stupid boring (like yesterday) or I know I’m about to make a dumb trade for the sake of “doing something”.

@lan – thanks for the link – will watch later when can
Thanks @piratesmile and @lanforce. I’m definitely checking out that video later tonight.
My GMCR’s are already up 25% with an upside target of 25. What was your entry ?
Nov 65’s at a cost basis of 1.74. I’m up 25% as of right now but went a little smaller than usual.
All aboard the YOKU love train
BIDU reports tonight and YOKU will have to sail with or against that wake. Just wanted to make sure you knew, friend.
Yes, thanks for the heads up. I’m in YOKU off the trend line and because everyone else hates it. BIDU should report strong sales, margin is the ?.
its a 1 day bounce in a downtrend. look at the move the previous 3 days. has been ugly.
You are 100% correct. This one is just a gamble
Love the BIDU action AH
sold APOL Wkly calls for nice profits
Congrats rajusus – nicely done.

OA – Do you think DECK is in same place like APOL here to enter as a long
No, but let’s discuss AH
the only issue i’m having is the general slight bleed in most, and I didn’t follow a couple of the really big winners. My equity curve would still be above previous highs had I been in the APOL trade.
I think the point is if you’re going to be in the system, you have to take all the trades. Trying to cherry pick off you can lead to missing the mega winners.
Or just raid the market when its working, lighten up when it isn’t.
Took profits out of PXD at 214 (up from 202). My initial trade plan was for 215 but this was close enough.
This stock is a volatility money maker if you have the discipline to plan your entry right. It ebbs and flows 7 points at a time.
(Pats self on back)
Nice work ‘Force, I missed that trade twice .Finger on the trigger, didn’t pull.
Put this one on your short list to watch. The way the stock trades, entry will be obvious. I’ll do it again 200-204, but I have a feeling it’s gonna go up first.
YOLO ALERT: CRM Nov1 54 calls. An entry to admire.
did you grab them at around $0.45?
Touch one to catch. Got partial fill at 0.48
Tough*
Check out CMLS after earnings. Buyers stepped in after early sell-the-news. Nice pocket above to $10.
Is anyone holding CRUS through earnings?
I am…thinking it will pop, not sure which way though..
X found a buyer. Hoep teh shorts are watching
Anyone have a target on this?
I do, it is much higher.
Jumped on these options yesterday. Nice call, Jeff!
X is going gangbusters to the upside.
earnings came out
earnings came out after market yesterday. Why the late intra day move?
conference call
My target for X is $32.20. If shorts start coving, I’m looking for $40.
Good Gawd Y’all
If? When…….When shorts start covering.
sina seems nice setup here…bidu earnings tonite, so probably depend on that…nice R/R imo.
Sold X calls right before breakout.. Nov 23’s at .97. Damn.
so did I, but only a 1/4 …I recommend not selling all at one price, because things like that happen to you. Trust me, I was pissed when I sold again at 1.24 and it went to 1.80, but thats life.
Harper:
Good point on partial sells. I tend to favor low price options because you can buy more for the same $ cost gamble. Then you can do partial sells on the way up, if it should it happen to go up…
Out
X goes from escargot to X car go.
Set Nov 25 call options limit executed at +50% 🙁
Holding common.
Good job and enjoy your supersize gains, OA!
Out
Anyone watching this flush on AAPL? Looking for possible Dec or Jan calls
I’d love to see 505-507 range again to buy.
Haha, I didn’t look at the options chain on AAPL all day and everything got vol crushed. I’ll stay for now and let the dust settle. Something feels suspect about that late day selloff.
Yep, that’s my plan. IV on the options are still relatively high compared to previous six months.
x2, volume is waay to high to make these affordable. I’ll wait and see if it gets forgotten about at these levels for a week or so.
OA, feeling any better today?
i think i caught your cold when i watched the AHWOA recording last night.
Worse, but trading better.
Feeling like I am watching an “X” rated market at the moment!! Go baby go!
calm down
Anyone staying in GMCR with SODA reporting tonight?
Me.
I’m in toward 65.
I managed to do just a hair better than break even last week on WLT. Bought WLT Oct 25 2013 15.00 Call on 10/10 for $.62, sold $.70 on 10/24.
I was looking to try again under $15 if I can get it for a trade up to $17. Came close today.
oops, earnings tomorrow before market
Did X report yesterday or today?
I guess it reported last night. I am so happy that this has been made obvious when companies report. You go to X website, it says tonight. WTF!
is everyone still holding the APOL weeklies? Saw the pop to 29.
not a fan of the daily candle when i look at it.
X play with options…invest in commons for 2014 ..once its deemed investment I don’t panic on down days
IRA multi year/ book MO/AWK/GILD/LMT/IR/DIS/F. few more on 1 year or less curious on what others have in investments
Cramer is doing a show on Fibonacci’s.
My trading method is now largely fucked.
Leonardo Fibonacci wasn’t much of a trader.
when cramer starts preaching volume pockets,,i will be certain he’s an OA
Followed you on CLF Nov $26 call – at $0.51
