Lie detector tests are kind of a joke though. They should dig into the women who are accusing him and see if they all know each other.
Red flags.
Normally I agree, especially in a situation where someone is being charged as a criminal
because
1)psychopaths and sociopaths either respond with a reverse polarity, while multiple personalities show no signs at all of deception either, and since crimes are more highly associated with truamatized people, you will fool a lot of people.
2)In an environment when someone agrees to take a poligraph, all they have to do is take a mild sedative or pain killer like vicodin or valium and they will fool the lie detector.
3)There is conflict between what the cop/interrogator has said has happened (feeding the person a story) and between the question asked (which if they are innocent may be in conflict with the story that the cop just fed the individual.) The subconscious cannot distinguish between a real and imagined event so if they imagined the story as the cop told it, there is conflict that can produce false positives, plus there is the belief that the authority figure is right which also creates enough conflict to potentially show a truth as a lie.
These instances make up much of the 30-40% when a lie detector fails. Most of a lie detector is based upon your pulse.
This was not a situation where either of them believed their pulse was being monitored or that there was a way to tell if they are lying… They are also very unlikely to be sociopaths or psychopaths.
They are much more expected to give correct readings even to a standard lie detector.
It is NOT a standard lie detector, however…

All i know is the guy seems very credible on this issue.
Even if innocent it is a terrible blow to him and his campaign.
I agree. His responses haven’t struck me as somebody who’s “in denial” – however I think you’re right that it will hurt his chances and have a big impact on public perception.
If you are black and you don’t think the way the media wants you to, and if you don’t hail Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton as your “leader” (and not a single black person considers them their leader in real life), you will get accused, crucified and made fun of. You will get made out to be an evil sex offender, otherwise they will do their best to ignore you. They tried ignoring Cain. But they couldn’t… How could they? So when he’s leading they pull out a racist assult on his character.
If you are interested to understand the procedure of lie detection, I suggest you learn about the limbic system and subconscious mind and “fight or flight response” if you haven’t already, and then checking out:
1)The books written by Joe Navarro, former FBI deception expert (including “read em and Reap” the book directed at using the detection in poker)
2)The television series “lie to me” as well as the work that the show is based on (Dr. Paul Ekman’s work)
3)Accessing Cues
4)Playing poker, or watching on TV where they have the hole cards where you can first just observe, and then you can watch with something blocking the hole cards and then you can try to guess what they have.
5)Taking Online Lie Detection tests. Some of them are very extensive.
The woman Gloria Alrred had come forward was clearly lying, I would have bet quite a bit on it. However to be fair, a case could be made for or against Cain, but if you compare it to his “baseline” you have the counter argument that although his voice seems a bit agitated, it is not excessively so, and it is not much different than how he normally speaks. I would personally go with “inconclusive” after recognizing my political bias may have an influence on my interpretation which failed to detect any signs of deception or being caught in a lie.
