Who Benefits from Corporate “Loopholes”?

The results may surprise you.

If nothing else, the statistic that “…only about 8 percent of corporate tax expenditure benefits are targeted to specific industries such as renewable energy, insurance, oil and gas, and coal” is worth adding to your mental quiver, just in case you’re having a discussion about corporate tax loopholes at a party or something.

China’s Manufacturing Grows Faster Than Expected

“Premier Wen Jiabao is seeking to restrain surging prices for homes and consumer goods while sustaining economic growth to create jobs and maintain social stability. Inflation topped the government’s target in the first two months of this year and officials will boost interest ratesagain this quarter according to all 20 economists in a Bloomberg News survey.”

Subprime in Vogue Trading at $0.60 on the Dollar

“The prices on a representative slice of the subprime bond market have doubled from 30 cents on the dollar at the low point of the crisis to roughly 60 cents today.

Their comeback underscores how investors have regained the courage to take on more risk as the economy recovers, pushing up the prices of a broad swath of riskier assets, from commodities to junk bonds to stocks.”

GM To Sell Delphi Automotive for $3.8 Billion

“Shares of General Motors (GM) were up 0.2% after hours, following the company’s announcement that it is selling its stake in Delphi Automotive for $3.8 billion.

GM is selling its Class A Membership Interest, which it acquired in October 2009 in conjunction with Delphi’s creation,  back to the company. GM said it will book a gain of approximately $1.6 billion …”

‘They feed on a wide range of important food crops. Crops such as sweet corn, apples, pears, grapes, berries, peaches, tomatoes and peppers appear to be the most vulnerable.

‘Some growers have lost their entire crop to stink bug infestations.

This adds up to many millions of dollars of losses in crop values.

EFFICIENT: Consumer Spending Habits in Focus

Travelers today are looking for more than just a free bag of peanuts and soda on flights and during hotel stays.

According to a recent survey, by joining traveler loyalty programs with airlines and hotels around the globe, consumers are earning points and redeeming them for not only free travel, but gift cards and even cash, to offset the slowly recovering economy—even if they are traveling on their company’s dime. Don Berg, vice president of Loyalty Programs and Partnerships for InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) said due to the economic climate, members of loyalty programs are looking to cash in more and more on everyday items, instead of another vacation.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s Big Stock Market Day

Traders are saying the scariest moment of the second quarter will be on April 27, when Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will hold the first ever press briefing following a monetary policy decision by the central bank.

This change in the Fed’s communication with the markets alone is enough to give investors the jitters, but the nervousness is compounded by the anticipation of a signal by the Fed chief as to whether the quantitative easing that has fueled this bull market will continue past its stated end date in June.
