You don’t think people who work for Trump can’t still hate the guy and his brand of politics? Look, intentionally harming the markets may be a little too strong. But Powell certainly wouldn’t mind seeing support for Trump hurt–and a nice, solid tanking of the stock market is a good way to bring that about. He was uncharacteristically hawkish when he spoke almost 2 weeks ago. The market has tanked and interest rates of soared since then. Many, even those within the administration, see Trump as a danger to the US and the global good…and Powell probably detests the fact that Trump criticized his Fed.
