This just in regarding the tariffs. Some believe Mexico and Canada will get exemptions — but that would be a mistake. If you want to do business in this country — you’ve got to pay the fucking toll.
- President Trump will hold a meeting at the White House today at 3:30 ET to discuss tariffs. Last Week, President Trump said there will be a 10% tariff on aluminum and a 25% tariff on steel. President Trump has been getting push back from his own party regarding this plan as 100 House Republicans sent the President a letter urging him to change course.
- What to watch for during today’s meeting:
- 1) If President Trump reaffirms the tariff percentages that he outlined last week. The higher the numbers, the more positive it will be for steel and aluminum sectors.
- 2) If President Trump outlines exemptions or carveouts for Canada and Mexico. In yesterday’s White House press briefing, Sarah Sanders said there will be potential carveouts for Mexico and Canada based on national security. (Canada accounts for 16% of steel imports and 41% of aluminum imports). CNBC reported that President Trump is considering a 30-day exemption for Canada and Mexico, which would be connected to NAFTA negotiations.
