TEETERING

We stabilized after plunging early. But the close was anything but good. Over the weekend, you should expect to hear more rumors and fear mongering, regarding all of the things that makes us scared. More so, I expect the market will dive lower, immediately, on Monday morning.

I have zero short exposure for managed accounts, so I am not exactly rooting for disaster. I sold out of most of my positions today, leaving WNR and GSVC in place. I am about 70% cash, mixed in with some treasuries, via TLT. I bought TLT due to my belief that money will seek safe harbor. Like it or not, treasuries are the most liquid and safest place to put money in the world.

The whole German-Greek drama is playing out exactly how my nightmares predicted. It is a worst case scenario with a little side order of depression wrapped in one.

It is possible the market goes up Monday and I end up making a grande old clusterfuck over nothing, even squandering coin via my current TZA calls. But that would make the market even more nonsensical and I can forgive myself for missing out on the bazaar.

On the eyes of Jupiter himself, we are this close (–*–) to a market rout of monumental proportions. If you are relying on President Dicksuckers plan, think again. The republicans would rather see the country burn down than help Obama by staving off a market panic. They will induce one. Bank on it.

What has President Dicksucker shown you that suggests he has any idea how to stave off a market panic?

But the fact that he is trying to pass stimulus will in fact have the opposite effect. The bill will be killed in the house.

Right, FDR’s gigantic expansion of government in the 30’s really served us well during that Depression.

Why SHOULDN’T we continue to waste bucks on Obama cronies and crooked banques?

Frog Playing – Increasing the size of government does nothing to help keep us out of an economic depression.. WTF gives you that idea?? if anything it has the opposite effect..

Less government, less regulations, open the f*cking door up and let businesses do business. CEO’s across the country are screaming it from the rooftops.. President Dicksucker just cares not to listen.. doesn’t fit into his Manifesto I suppose..

Bullspit! Less attention to the regulations fully on the books did the banks in.

Why? Because regulators are not looking out for the peoples’ best interest, but the largest competitors in the industry.

Of course everything is temporary, but there’s a difference between making a “tax cut” period, and a “temporary tax cut.”

The latter does nothing for long term structural planning and is therefore useless for effecting change.

His proposed “stimulus” is designed to benefit only the labor unions at the expense of the taxpayer because he wants to keep their votes. Read a little Thomas Sowell or Walter Williams for insight into how government is so helpful. The best thing it can do is get out of the way and if the Repubs keep more harmful regs from being implemented we’re all better off.

Keeping everyone on the government tit to some degree enables that power or political control is maintained. Whether that be via Federal/State jobs, welfare, or as a member of a labor union.

Wow, Susan, I am really impressed by your carefully reasoned argument here, against Obama’s policies, by calling him a Dicksucker.

I’ll have to remember that one, next time I want to make a carefully thought out reasoned argument for or against some political policy. No need to discuss the facts. Or to consider what might be helpful or constructive for our country. Just call my least fave politician an obscene name.

I never said it worked. He’s far from perfect and a big disappointment to those who voted for him. But it’s unfair to just assume that everything he does is wrong, like some Fox News or Drudge Report zombie. The article I cited above gives many examples of how Dem policies have been doing less harm than Repubs in recent times.

I would like a functional third party myself– one with candidates who accept no money from Special Interest Groups and who pledge to do their best to govern in the overall publc interest.

Wow that “yes we can” video is a cringefest. When the deaf woman comes out signing, ouch. I almost smashed my screen.

Regarding the topic at hand, Obama didn’t get us in this. The Bushwacker did. Well it was Cheney because he was the one pulling the strings. Cheney said Reagan proved deficits don’t matter. The idea went viral from there. Society adopted this doctrine as a one size fits all, regardless of the context, whether you are a government or an individual wanting to buy a McMansion with no money down. It is still not generally accepted that deficits DO matter. There is no consensus on that, especially among the Republicans i.e. Reaganites who refuse to consider any new taxes.

We need a great big stimulus and higher taxes. Sorry.

People always want someone else to blame so they can feel better about their inability to succeed in spite of whatever conditions exist. This problem was coming long before Bush took office. Human nature has existed since the days of Eden. And no problem would be your problem if you personally were ever born. Killing yourself ends a temporary problem forever, but it also ends everything else. Seriously though problems are a part of life, quit looking for people to blame and look for how you can deal with the situation at hand.

This argument is like do you blame winter on the sun the earth, the weatherman or what you had for breakfast? It doesn’t fucking matter, it’s a part of the cycles and nature of life.

Recessions will always exist and politicians on both sides will always fuck up, sometimes intentionally to serve their own interests, other times because they don’t know any better and don’t understand the true consequences of their actions.

Cheerleading for a specific “cause” or party is only an act of mental masturbation. Politicians don’t give a fuck about parties as much as everyone watching this puppet show does, they only want votes and power and wealth. In fact the reason they have these BS party’s is so first people pick a side, then the compromise is met in the middle. Those that control both sides control the compromise, and people are so relieved to put an end to the tension created that they will gladly accept the proposed “solution”.
It’s just another form of the “Hegelian dialect” at work.

The funny thing is, all the recent “socialist” movement is by design to benefit the very people that the “socialist cheerleaders” want brought down…. The Central Bankers!

Green Jobs Solyndra Crony Scandal & other billion plus giveaways

Refusal to sign Colombia/South Korea/Taiwan Trade agreements as sop to unions

$900 bn stimulus payoff to public service unions, and “shovel ready jobs” that were not ready

Dodd-Frank small bank strangulation (1500 pages, never read, regs not yet even written)

FHFA Lawsuit on Large Banks to extract settlement extortion on behalf of corrupt Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac

Leaving Fan & Fred in place, and going back to the old CRM lending extortion via regulatory diktat AGAIN.

            ACORN corruptioon.

            Un-vetted (by the Senate)regulatory Czars.

Far Left and unqualified Supreme Court nominees…

And yeah, I blame Bush for letting Nancy and Harry push his lame duck ass around from 2007-2009, but your Emperor has really shit the shower with his regulatory and confiscatory regime. Absolutely hands down THE WORST.

Read the blog, Susan. He didn’t say anything about Obama staving off a market panic. Indeed it may be impossible to stop, once people with a lot of media access– like Repubs– have started a panic. It is far easier to destroy than to create. And unfortunately, people like things that are easy. Making money, and acquiring power, by catering to people’s unfounded fears, is unfortunately easy.

Yes, he said the Repubs would NOT stave off a market panic. He said nothing about Obama staving off a market panic. Once people with media access get a market panic, it’s likely going to be impossible for ANYONE to stave off.

    Nice musical selection – LOL.

If Obama said the Republicans were handsome, they’d shoot themselves in the face to spite him. When their sole objective is to deny him reelection or even modest, moderate successes (on formerly bipartisan issues!), we should expect nothing less than New Rome going up in flames. Fuck the Teabaggers. Time to run them out on a rail before they jam the gears on the whole fucking country.

Missed the TZA turn today as I was otherwise occupied, dammit. Downright nauseated from the roller coaster ride of the last few weeks. This market just blows giant horse cock (no homo). When TLT and GLD and other extremely lackluster asset classes are your only hope (ex-shorts), the game has become No Fun.

The world is a giant leaky boat with no wind in the sails, no one at the helm, and 7 billion rats clinging to the sides. Next port: Mutiny (no bounty)

The only things I want exposure to now are things I can hold in my sweaty little palms. Well that’s what I’m certainly counting on. I bought a little today near the lows and if Monday morning presents itself as a buying opportunity, well, I will buy some more. You have to buy when things go on sale. A couple of days ago, markets tanked in the morning and recovered. If you were lucky enough to buy near the lows that morning, you could have made 10% in almost anything in two days!

Here is how to use the stimulus dollars IMO. When you identify projects, have a management consulting firm like Accenture or Deloitte actually measure the “bang for the buck” value on any infrastructure project and then prioritize those projects.

The problem with the first stimulus package was it was literally thrown at any and all silly projects pushed ahead by the respective congressmen just so that they can see the dollars flowing in real world. Big mistake. They can control and better manage this time around. And if they do, then this will actually be good for the economy.

Well managed or research grant based government spending does create a positive loop in economy. Exhibit A – Creation of Arpanet (original internet). Exhibit B – Development of Freeways. Exhibit C – Human genome project. Exhibit D – Even google would not have been possible without the fellowships at Stanford. Do you want me to go on?

Nope, not even smart guys like DeLoitte can figure out the best way to spend a limited amount of capital to best “stimulate” the economy. No one is that smart.

That’s why only the market can do it. The private market, made up of billions of daily economic decisions.

The only solution: Cut the government, put the dough back in the hands of the people.

How could I forget? That no one is interested in anyone else’s view of politics, because politics is based on perceived self-interest. E.g. people who are related to a Congress person of whatever party will continue to be related to them, and to root for that side, no matter what anyone says.

Never mind whatever I said above. Sorry. I forgot that facts are irrelevant to politics. Facts can easily be selected to support, or appear to support, the preconceived views of one’s family or primary social network. etc.

Discussing politics is like letting traveling missionaries into your house. Like the missionaries are really going to be interested in your own religion or viewpoints.

No, the history of the world shows that authoritarian power grabs are often the card of the day.

Only in the history of the American Republic has anyone made a true attempt at establishing the natural rights of a free people, including property rights and civil freedoms.

Randian litany? That’s a total strawman argument and has not been put forth by anyone on this thread.

And Frog is not correct in any sense. He’s hiding his true leanings by trying to de-construct all truth as solipsism. This helps those whose “truths” have been shown to be catastrophically destructive, like those who’ve chosen Frog’s socialist vision.

There’s no evidence of Frog’s vision every working in history, save for the authoritarian few who end up in absolute power. This lack of evidence drives him to claim that there is no evidentiary truth, and that there are no paths to societal cohesion, so let’s just agree to disagree.

History proves different, despite the authoritarian’s fondest wishes.

Perspective from outside the US. You are a great country with a still unmatched aptitude for entrepreneurship. But your political system has become too polarized. There is no longer any middle ground. Nobody is prepared to embrace great ideas if they happen to come from the wrong side of the aisle, even in the midst of historical blows to the economy. Yes, Obama has made mistakes. That’s what happens when many are so embarassed by GWB that someone – anyone – who can express themselves articulately and seems intelligent is considered an improvement, even though a rudimentary analysis of his previous accomplishments should have been a red flag on suitability for this, the highest office in the land. And sadly, Fly appears to be right that the Republicans are prepared to provide zero assistance and risk economic collapse because it assures them of the next Presidency. Worse, if the shoe was on the other foot the Democrats would do the same. That’s how fucktarded your system has become. I hope you can sort it out soon. I have many friends in the US and invest in your stock markets. So am rooting for you.

It’s not the polarization. One side does far more harm than the other. Only one side is willing to totally destroy the economy in order to kill the other’s chances for re-election, and to cause the downgrade of U.S. credit for this purpose. That’s like , in a fight where one child seriously injures another, or all the other kids in the school, with a gun, if you start talking about how polarized the school is and blame everyone equally. See my article below.

No, it’s more like one side recognizes the destructive policies of the other side and says “hold on a minute.”

When they are ignored and the destructive policies are codified, then the other side goes out and addresses the electorate and says “holy shit, we need to fix this.”

          Then they win.

Then the other side (the destructive side) says “eff you, we will continue as if you did not just get a gigantic imprimatur from the American people.”

And so it goes. Your stuff is no longer in favor Frog. The sooner you realize this, the sooner your side will be able to recoup its electoral losses.

If however, your side continues to wreck havoc in the economy by continuing it’s destructive ways… well, you remember what happened after Carter?

          See you in 40 years.

Bill, it’s just not equal on both sides. Repubs do far more harm than Dems, although Dems also do harm. Those are just the facts. A former Repub staffer tells all in this article:

obama has made GWB look great… He is on some fucking socialist crusade to destroy the USA. I mean really, who the fuck is so focused on health care reform in the midst of the worst recession/depression anyone still under 90 has ever seen? He does not understand how shit really works. A lot of stuff looks great on paper but when you actually go to implement it, it blows up like a hydrogen bomb, leaving no prisoners…

He stuffed us with another expensive entitlement program that will end up costing 10x , 100x more as medical tech evolves.. See this shit would have worked in 1950 when we didnt have quadruple bypasses/MRI’s, and all this expensive ass medical operations to extend the life of a 90 yr old another 2 fucking years… just like social sec, it was built around an unsustainable economy/workforce.

I think Obama actually believed it was all Bush’s fault and still does, that is how fucking jaded that man is. Also, he is an arrogant motherfucker that only cares about getting re elected. And Bill, wtf man, shit storm is coming out of Europe, so don’t blame hard working americans like myself that put in 12 hour days, while u lazy fucks in Europa work half that and take 8 weeks a yr vacation. Again, very good example of entitlement programs built around unsustainable lifestyle… Time to face to music, Bill. Go “bud tend” in amsterdam or something, u fuckhead.

You see, Bill, what Draxwin just said to you. This is the kind of “polarization” we are dealing with. Plus look at the guy below who claims not to be racist, LOL. So the 2 sides are not equal in their propensity to insult one another.

That being said, I agree with Draxwin that no hard workers should have to pay for someone else’s irresponsible debts, like Germany is being asked to do for Greece. And like middle class Americans are being asked to pick up the tab for corporate welfare such as the military industrial complex, Big Pharma etc. Both parties have screwed us Americans in that way. However, to say that Obama has done any more harm than Bush is beyond ridiculous.

“I agree with Draxwin that no hard workers should have to pay for someone else’s irresponsible debts, like Germany is being asked to do for Greece.”

Part of the problem is that Greek citizens are being asked to pay for the irresponsible loans the German (and other European) banks made to irresponsible Greek banks.

The banks, who have no reason to exist other than to price credit risk, threaten to take down whole economies each time they do a monumentally bad job of pricing credit risk.

the dominios will tumble, germans are fed up, “game over man game over.” They need to go to zero, as many US companies as well. I know this will be very bad, but sometimes you have to let capitalism do its thing: flush out the weak, and to the successful mofo’s go the spoils…. all these bailouts r like pouring liquid $ doiwn the drain, just extending the ineveitable another few months, while idiots on wall street ponder about qe3 like is is some saving fucking grace. All it does it let longs get out of their positions then they short sell.. I honestly can not fathom anymore bull shit moral hazard. fuck it. I believe we will never come out of this until we let the bad apples go to 0.

    I am a sooth sayer.

In 2020, a new propulsion mechanism will be created. We will split the gold atom, resulting in a copper and tin byproduct and maximum speeds of c in well-crafted Ford-Virgin Galactic Noosian Cruiser.

Man will finally be able to make round trips to the sun in order to harvest its vast core of Helium. The timing of this will be incredibly fortuitous, as even today, Bozos around the world fear our rapidly declining supply of helium, and fear the day hydrogen Hindenburg balloons are the only viable alternative.

Humans will finally have found actual value in the yellow shiny metal, for which an odd breed of human has always had an instinctual desire to hoard it in purified cylindrical and tetrahedral form.

Texas only state with its own power grid (ercot), we have wanted to succeed from the union since we joined the union 10 years before the civil war broke out. The Great state didn’t want to be part of that nonsense, Texas was like wtf!? we just joined can’t we just leave?! So, what does this have to do with the Fly’s blog, you ask? Fly is right, Republicans(me*) won’t give the “black plague” the time of day. His jobs plan is complete bs, who the fuck comes up with this shit really? incentive to hire people who have been out of work longer?? That is fucking dumb, so there is an incentive to hire people who are less qualified, meaning companies will become less efficient and run by street bums(instead of overpaid/over educated Harvard shit doesn’t stink white collar bums, like most of the “I sound really smart but don’t know shit” people on Wall st.). I mean when people are ready to elect another texas governor, you know shit is really bad… Texas been preparing for this shit for 200 years, if shit gets really really bad, we will just fucking leave. I have been calling for dow 6000 for 2 months now, that might be an over exaggeration, maybe not. But I am 100% cash. I was all wnr w/ a platinum/gold spread I took off for $25 bucks an oz profit. sold weiner when it popped to 18 cuz i know it will be trading 14 again soon.. wnr does have a high beta, even though it has been working against the grain lately somewhat, but they have alot of debt and when shit really gets bad that is the last place I want to be. Really pisses me off, b/c the fundies are so fucking good, but that shit does not matter when the whole system is crashing. I am down a couple percent in my PA,no biggie, but if I were up 15 like fly I would unload on any rally and wait for the crash. I mean if u managed to stay up through this nonsense, the risk/reward does not add up to me at this time…I would take ALL my 10k chips off table and take a european vaca lol, on a 300
+ up day of course which we will get some time next week.Personally, I can’t stand trading equities right now, it’s just more stress I do not need.If it goes higher and we get a sustained rally so be it, but something is very very wrong. I have a rule when trading equities: once I start seeing 500 up and down days its time to hit the bricks. All that tells me is we are headed lower in 6 month time horizon. I would not listen to me though, I only 27, and am not an equity guy, but rather an energy futures guy with not much experience as a seasoned veteran…. worthless factoids of the day: Texas only state that can fly state flag at same level as USA flag. Texas also only state that has the right to break up into 5 different states if we fucking choose to do so…. Don’t mess with Texas is the moral of this story, I have Texas pride even though I was born and raised in Kansas. LOL. What differentiates Texas from other states? We actually have physical assets bubbling out of the ground. Theoretically, commodites can not go to 0, while any stock theoretically can go to 0. USA became a service oriented country instead of making shit ourselves because of greed. That was the beg. of our own demise. OK OK, I sound really bearish right now, felt the same on every 200+ up day as well. So, I am giving this horrific scenario a 3 delta, which I guess is lower than the what s&p thinks hahaha. First black prez, and first fucking downgrade to usa rating.. I am 100% NOT a racist btw, I am just stating the obvious. SO, until shit stabilizes or we dip below dow 10,000, I will be sitting on a pile of cash drinking kentucky deluxe/ moonshine/and shooting guns like its fucking d day.

last comment, I run tight “risk mgmt” on all my accts. I will not allow my daily VAR to be above 3%. If I down 10%,I stop out, and reorganize my strategy. This does not work well in current enviroment, and stocks are a whole different animal than energy futures, probably why I would not consider myself the best equity trader, frankly I am young and didn’t factor in how psycological the fucking equity mkt is even when you could not have better fundies in A dream scenario(wnr,CVI).. It’s like sitting at a poker table with a bunch of ameteurs… Energy traders usually know when shit is going to get bad before equity guys IMO. When I saw CAL 15 nat gas coming off like a prom dress, that was a leading indicator for me that stock mkt in bad shape.

Draxwin, it sounds like you have learned some useful things about trading energy and equities. Thanks for sharing that with all on the board.

I can’t imagine how you can think you are not racist thouhg– talking about the “black plague”

And “First black prez, and first fucking downgrade to usa rating.” C’mon. The debt ceiling has been raised without incident 87 times. Only this time the Repubs brought the country to the brink of default, stalling until the last minute, which was followed by the credit rating downgrade. And you blame Obama for this?

Never mind. All your Texas friends believe this I guess, and maybe whoever else you hang around with. So I expect there is no way you would see it a different way. People don’t believe political ideas because of facts.

I just made up the “black plague” thing off the top of my head cuz I thought it sounded cool. lol. Libs are so quick to pull the race card on fucking anything. I mentioned that a black man(he is half white) was elected and we had our first downgrade, now the gov is probing s&p which I figured would happen. Kinda like bail out the banks and turn around and sue em. Sometimes I wonder if Obama is taking ques from Putin, next thing you know Obama will be riding around on a horse shirtless shooting a ar15 waist side, and diving for sunken treasures and miraculously finding them in 3 feet of water. I mean how much fucking $ do u conjure s&p fuckstains made off that downgrade? It is what is ok, I am at peace with myself, I am not a bigot, and I apologize that it came across as racist. wtf am I doing right now? lol I am going out, I am 100% cash but somehow like this board a lot and like to rile people up. I watched the speech last night and was bothered by the feeling… That Obama’s heart wasn’t in it. I agree to lead you have to inspire.. Maybe this is playing out exactly as he wants it to and the powers at be are using him as the pawn to destroy the country.. Sounds crazy yes I know.. I really wished he would step down.

I like the financial discussion on this site, but the political discussion at times sounds like the John Birch society–

Why do I get the feeling y’all preparing for another civil war over there? Well, at least all you NRA members would finally be able to use those guns y’all been stockpiling, along with all that canned food and bottled water. Then you could legally kill all the dems and libs you want–especially the black ones (and the muslims too, while you’re at it)–and you would be doing it all for your country.

Can’t wait to watch this on Fox!

Hey Ben, obviously you have never been to Texas. You can have a loaded hand gun in ur glove box legally without a permit(as long as it is not visable and ur a law abiding citizen).I have a hand gun in both my cars(mofo that tries to rob me pumping gas at 2am will be in for a “hollow point” surprise). That is the Texas way, the logic is crimianls carry guns no matter what, so why not let law abiding citizens pack heat too? criminals know that 50% of texans have a gun, so they are taking a big gamble whenever they commit a crime. Also, GOOD POINT, too many fucking people on this planet. famine, war,& disease is the balancing point, and no doubt we are headed down that road.

Ben, I think most of the John Bircher types on this site, would not kill a person for having different beliefs. Although unfortunately the hatred and anger and bitterness sometimes rise so high, that it is going in that direction. I hope we never get to that place.

I do think there is room for disagreement about gun control. I am middle of the road on it. There are places in the U.S. where crime is high and a firearm might be necessary to defend oneself. And hunting for food is certainly a good way to add protein to the family diet on a budget.

My point is not really about gun control–that’s the least of the problems right now, and no point trying to change it because, hell, it’s in the constitution.

I just don’t believe that all government is bad, all unemployed people are lazy parasites, and businesses and corporations are noble and enlightened–but if you were to read the comments here, that’s what many people here apparently believe–and that, combined with a total intolerance–or even loathing–of those who do not share their views is, quite frankly, bad for democracy. Yet these are the same people who criticize Theocracies, but this is nothing more than the rule of Ideology–should we call this an Ideocracy?

Sure is easy to make yourself look noble when you make up an imaginary opponent to argue against.

It’s called “The Straw Man Argument,” an it’s a favorite of President Obama as well.

Of course no one here has argued that “unemployed people are parasites” or that “all government is bad” or even some of the extremely ugly racist arguments that Ben has advanced here.

But it sure is easier to make up a fake opponent to formulate arguments against… if all you care about is boosting your own ego and not actually engaging in a conversation.

Next time, Ben, take on the list that I put forth above, of the numerous and multiple egregious wounds the Democrat Party has recently advanced on the U.S. economy.

Or don’t, if you’ve got no game. But spare me the fake issues that lets you and certain inattentive Canadians (Calgary) pat yourselves on the back.
