Don Henley in the London Daily Mail November 9, 2007 said: “Some of the wilder interpretations of that song have been amazing. It was Record of the Year (as opposed to song or album) for 1978 (not 1977 despite it’s 2/77 debut) … and a good reason for the dig by The Dan as the Eagles seemingly were awarded for an old song upon their breakup as a band, while Aja’ was clearly the best of the competition. I don’t think the digs were a “friendly rivalry” … The Dan clearly were making fun of the Eagles for their mainstream top forty winners.
BTW: Both the eagles and The Dan were beaten out for 1978 Album of the Year by Fleetwood Mac with their Rumours album … always liked the Mac until then.
