Traveling Down the Path of Sherman

This summer, The House of Fly will be “road tripping” it down south: destination Savannah. Along the way, I will be throwing pig bones and chicken wings out of the window of my Ford pick-up truck. I will carry 10 shot guns and 10 hand grenades, into “enemy territory.” Just like the Northern Masters of The Federal Reserve are ripping through your purses, via egregious inflationary policies, “The Fly” will burn your country to the ground, and more.

I’ve told you before: I always see the worst in people. It’s in my nature. I wish life was simple and dynamically pleasant. Unfortunately, my mind is racing 200 mph through complex asset management strategies, some of which, inevitably, end up being losers.  While you think toast, I am making croutons. You fish for food: I break your pole. Scratch that homo line, pardon me very much, to the 3rd degree (highest degree possible).

Tonight I will get drunk, but not from some low-end pumpkin ale. “The Fly” drinks amongst honorable people, consuming the very best wine available for retail consumption. Check me on twitter: @ The_Real_Fly for twitpics later on this evening.

I know you want to talk about the market and “picks.” Frankly, I don’t have an interest.

Finally, I’ve decided to break a long standing policy on iBankCoin to avoid talking politics. I’m going Costanza on that policy and will be offering FULL COVERAGE on election night, here on iBC. Believe you me, you will not get better political commentary anywhere else on the web.  As the young, punk, wise-ass fly used to say: “you’ll see.”

Top pick: Kings of Leon album.

    Fly,

There is some stock related talk show that automatically streams from your blog about 1 hr before the market opens. Who is this guy? He has woken me up like 3 times now.

        Scott,

I read your blog, it was based on logic and facts. Absolutely no stock analogies involving time machines, bearded clams, or street canons. Couldn’t even find a single hooker reference. That’s no way to trade stock.

Nothing to talk about in this market today anyway.

What is the wine of choice this evening? I am in the mood for some quality white wine (opposed to the grocery store wine), can you make a recommendation? Not like a 1000 bottle more like a 20 – 40 bottle.

It’s a grenache-temperanillo mix. I’ve long been a fan of light temperanillos (they have had the added bonus of being cheap), so I am eager to try this one.

Earlier this year I was in the Finger Lakes region (upstate NY) and really liked the offerings from Hermann J. Wiemer, a perfect wine for hyperinflation. They have a good Gewurztraminer and Riesling. I recall them saying 2007 was one of the best years they’ve had at the winery and in the region.

In fact, Gary Vaynerchuk has a review of it: http://tv.winelibrary.com/2008/02/page/2/ Episode #409

In direct contradiction to the mass produced cheap trendy pinot grigios, I suggest the 2007 Movia Pinot Grigio. Available, I believe, in some better eateries in NYC. Ask at Breslin Bar if they have a PG from Slovenia. That would be the one suggested above.

Dry like domestic Chard? Do you want more grapefruit or looking for tropical citrus? What about light and floral? Whites can see a huge difference. Ever have a Riesling made from Botrytis Cinera grapes?

A quality white wine you ask? $20-$40? It can run from standard Napa Chards to the Viognier blends very similar to the Rhone blends. White Bordeaux as well as Chablis would be a good area to look, but as to a Chateau I don’t have a recommendation on that front.

Several of my favorites domestically would be Sonoma Coast Vineyards Sauv Blanc ($23.99), Rombauer Chardonnay ($29.99), Hall Sauv Blanc ($21.99) or for a heavy, oaky and golden Chard – Franciscan Sauvage ($39.99) – a wild yeast Chard that is on one end of the extreme spectrum of Cali Chards.

As mentioned – Italian PGs drink drier then the domestics, and Oregon is producing some fine PG’s called Pinot Gris- no difference in the grape however, just a state ruling to call it Gris.

The election was in the bag for the right since spring. As soon as i saw “real unemployment figures” cross 20%, i knew the republicans had no chance of losing. Even at this point, any scandal imaginable could break out, and they’d still be likely to win. That, at least , kept me from even trying moderate swing shorts until last few weeks.

As far as the subject of 7 dollar burritos.
Nothing but a dark future for CMG :
Dow rally=Food input prices continue skyrocketing.
Dow drop=Discretionary restaurants will sell off hardest.

The irony here is that the GOP (if they follow through with what they’ve been promising) is more likely to cause the market to go down than the Democrats. Cutting spending favors companies and ventures that don’t exist yet, since most large scale spending ends up in DOW pockets.

I mean, I think it needs to happen, but the market rallying in the face of this obvious outcome is going to be in for a shock if suddenly companies that have been sneaking government contracts start posting huge disappointing numbers.

Same thing if the GOP reins in Bernanke, really.

“Sneaking”? You’re 100% correct, even though it’s been in the open for the past 30 years. I think the most telling statistic regarding the growth of the federal government and its consequent spending is the growth in the metro DC area over the same 30 year timeframe.

It will be interesting to see the effect the tea party has on the dynamic of government spending.

I have trouble seeing any elements of the market possessing that kind of discipline. Besides, the Democrat’s problems stem from a perception of over spending, negligence of the economy, and behaving tyrannically on social issues. The stock markets behavior doesn’t necessarily fall into any of those categories or manage to trump them. So if this rally is trying to hail mary for the Dems, I doubt it will play out to their favor.

On your way to Savannah try and stop at the Waffle House at the I-95 Hardeeville, Ga exit and ask for the waitress Gladys.

Fed said they are going to do 100 Billion QE per month, that equals a 5 Billion POMO every day of each month. So, since the market never goes down on POMO days then that means starting 11/3 the market will be UP EVERY DAY. We will never see a down day again. Zimbabwe Ben has decreed it will be so.

120 Billion/month Deficit minus 100 billion per month QE does not equal 58 Billion/month inflation ($700M/year). It’s not as simple as that. There is the hidden deficit. Promises. Fran & Fred, GM, bank bailouts, FED mystery spending/lending, upcoming Forclosuregate bailouts, Social Security, crappy health care for all, etc.. Without austerity measures, QE’s must grow fatter and fatter as a result. Net result = Fly’s aforementioned robbery of middle-class America via inflation to Neptune. As in you’ll need a wheelbarrow full of money stacked roughly to the orbit of Neptune to buy a tomato.

The net equation at the end of the day has been prescribed to be inflation. I think that this baby inflation they are fucking for will run away on them and get really big and hairy in a nearby cave, suckled and raised by wolves. Then he will attack the peasants in the village known as America with his spiked club and hockey helmet.

Just like the sign says- “Chili today and hot Tamale.” We can get some of those cool fireworks and sneak them back into New York and you can throw them off your roof at old lady Botticelli.
We can also take the road trip over to the Stuckeys in Darien,Ga. and pick up some Pecan Log Rolls and then maybe get over and see the world’s largest peanut in Ashburn.

Since we are on the subject of politics…….

I was traveling in Ohio a couple weeks ago doing some rep work at a trade show and I passed a place with one of those never ending yard sales going on each day. A sign in the yard said “Democrat kittens, FREE”. For the first three says I drove past, it said the same thing. Then on the fourth day I did a double take because the sign now said Republican kittens, FREE.
I debated in the back of my mind all day long what could possibly have caused the resident to change the sign in such a manner. My curiosity got the best of me on the way back to the hotel sand I stopped to inquire about the sign change. Walking up to the lady, I asked if she had a different batch of kittens today than the previous days. She replied, “no, they are the same cats” and also that many people had asked that same question.
“So”, I said, “what makes them Democratic kittens yesterday and Republican kittens today”? She never batted and eye and matter of factly said, “Yesterday their eyes was closed, today they’re open”……….

    I’m just sayin…………..

as we pay nearly $8 for an 8-ounce cup of beer
and $5 for a bag of peanuts.

Considering that the borrow and spend, spend, spend voodoo economics of Reagan and Bush are the cause of our economic grief, the Republican kittens are the ones sucking on the military industrial teat.

Somebody had to come here and say that. Are the political ads nastier than ever this year? I mean, from both sides. Just nasty and full of lies about each other.

Politicians………..when they lie, they speak their native language.

What we need are some true statesmen, not weaselly mealy mouthed politicians interested only in how the press release will read tomorrow. Bastards. All of them!

In 1981 Reagan signed the largest tax cut in American history. During his time in office, the national debt went from 700 billion to 3 trillion.

Bush signed tax cuts totalling 1.2 trillion over 6 years. $4 trillion was added to the debt during that time, including a 1.4 trillion deficit in his last year in office.

$6.3 trillion was added to the debt by the fiscal policies of those two presidents. I stand by my comment of “borrow, borrow, borrow.”

The US needs to cut spending drastically and to sharply boost taxes if the country wants to avoid a financial catastrophe.
