Based on last quarter’s earnings, they seemed to be on the rebound. But stock dilution is the black cloud hanging over any sort of upward movement. I was pretty bullish on Natural Gas, but Fly’s deflationary vortex thesis has me rethinking what kind of upside NG really has–even though we are in the midst of hurricane season, off-shore moratoriums, etc.
With minimal off-shore exposure, FTK seemed primed to capitalize on the mess in the Gulf. Yet things look grimmer and grimmer every day with this company.
With a bajillion cubic feet of shale gas being produced every second, who gives a fuck about GOM for natty supplies?

beaver- I’ve been in the PPT since Feb 09 eg “working” with Fly and his team since then as he is trading in there with us during the day- and have never experienced him being needy– though I’m sure I’ve probably been that in there. Testy and irritable? maybe- don’t know any money managers who take their job of protecting their client’s money very seriously who aren’t on edge in this market. Don’t see him being testy and irritable in the PPT unless a new member is rude/demeaning to him or someone in the PPT. Only see him helping, helping and HELPING us in there- though how he has time to do that is a mystery to me.

My dad left NYC for Oregon to raise us (thank you dad!) and my boss grew up in Brooklyn- so I understand the cultural condition. And the guys I’ve worked with from back east get so frustrated working with us Oregonians because “we are too nice and polite” (they’re probably thinking we’re brain dead, idiots or zombies which may be treu (sic) given some of our not so wise pasts:) and tend to not what to get into what could be a very healthy argument about an issue. But that’s culture. Given his culture- he is certainly very kind to us in the PPT- as for me actions speak far louder then words. It’s like someone saying about Jake “he’s a conservative fanatic” rather than “and an excellent trader with excellent posts- whose portfolio is outperforming many- who is consistently helpful to his commentors”. Fly may be NY cranky at times- but that is far outbalanced by his generosity, his work ethic, his trading skills which are shared with us, and his integrity. More then anything else about him- it’s his integrity and passion for having tools that “regular” people can use — that would inspire me to do what I could to help him succeed- even if
anything I do is of very little value in actuality.

You know, this whole deflationary vortex commentary and savage austerity measures being the new strategic plan is somewhat irritating. Since my strategy is long for many years, another buying dip is of no consequence, but watching my portfolio shrink and then expand is annoying. I’d rather watch it expand and then expand, if you know what I mean.

I did a search for stocks hit by more than 50% and found this interesting pick: GXDX.
Their revenue has been fairly steady but all of the talk of revenue cuts and lowering of forecasts have pummeled the stock price. They have no debt and $132M of cash on hand with an EV/rev of 0.80. Analysts have cut the FY’10 EPS to $1.20 for its 18M odd shares outstanding valuing it around $22. Right now it’s trading for $16.37, or a 34% discount.
Worth a look, I may buy it.
