Cuban makes some good points (day trading provides no economic benefit, except lining the pockets of e-brokerages). Plus, it could push some of the high-frequency computerized trading out of the market.
Cuban’s points are simplistic at best. Trading, whether intraday or not, does provide economic benefits; always has and always will.
As far as regulation, you can’t single out one seemingly problematic aspect of the market and ignore the rest and expect to get any meaningful results. If you disagree, then I suggest you go read your history.
On a final, cheap note, I would also being willing to bet that Cuban’s big bankroll has at some point benefited from the tactics that he is now preaching against . . .
According to the Wikipedia entry on Cuban, he made a couple million on a previous company before broadcast.com
He was in the right place at the right time, for sure. My view is about 95 percent of it was securing the broadcast.com domain, which turned out to be a wining lotto ticket in the domain name race.
We should all be so lucky every once in a while, but to his credit he was prepared.
The game of sovereign musical chairs continues. Europe will melt down( where else in the world is there a greater sense of entitlemment than the US?) ; it is merely a matter of when. The only productive/exporting economy on that contintent is Germany. Austerity measures will inflame the European’s sense of entitlement like a petulant child. Their populace, much like ours. has been conditioned to the pipe dream of retirement at 55. I’m sorry but you should work until you die or save enough on your own to retire.
As to the markets. I think we go back to the 2008 lows barring extremely aggressive government intervention or foreign funds seeking refuge from a collapsed Europe. In any case, ultimately the dollar is devalued.
Pretty soon the only money left in the market will be that of the uber rich and 401K/Pension money. I think the uber rich will chip away at mom and pop’s retirement money until nothing is left. Granted this is years down the road but it will happen.
Shouldn’t we all be entitled to a new Govt. sponsored hip replacement in our 70’s…

For Europe, it’s like one huge Cat Fight,been that way for months…no agreements….for this weekend, Both Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and French President Nicolas Sarkozy cancelled trips to Moscow to mark the anniversary of the end of World War Two in order to continue consultations over the crisis, though German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she would still go,,,,,,so she is not even cancelling a PR trip over this,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,imho, If China slows down, with Expo and High Rise Apartment building done….it’s primary importers like Germany will not be doing the biz it did in 2009…….we will see if Shanghai Comp HOLDS it’s Sept 2009 low tomorrow night………………………..
