Of course he will have to prove this occurred often or the courts might give clemency in a one time event. This is not to say that there is not a large group of powerful people who would very much benefit from the limitation of the sovereign rights of the individual, but only that this has been true for the entirety of man’s history.
In other words, our task should not be to uncover what has always been true of man and his penchant for Authoritarianism (albeit masked in mulitple ideologies always leading to the same end– see “new thinker Purdy” for an example of someone who mistakenly thinks he’s saying something fresh), but rather to advance the case for indiviual freedom here, in the first crucible of it’s testing.
