First you should visit the Fly’s blog many times a day. Second, not saying anything re investing in GMCR, but that contrapion is for the Folgers drinking crowd. If you really like good coffee you won’t have one of those machines. Maybe you want to try Folgers in a tea bag as well….Again doesn’t mean it won’t be a fad for a while….I like making coin on fads.

Foundation of the uptrend is being repaired. NYSE cumulative advance/decline line is now confirming the recent price highs and the Russell 2000 has outperformed the big cap indexes 3 of the last 4 days. Just have to exceed the October high (~4% from here) to put the Russell solidly back in the uptrend column.
If you draw a trend line on the Russell chart from the July 2007 high down thru the September 2008 high you’ll see the Russell has room to run to about 650ish before hitting the downtrend line. Note that a downtrend line on the Nasdaq Composite chart drawn from the March 2000 high thru the October 2007 high is currently at 2200, right where the Nasdaq Composite has run into strong resistance.

What happened? The market was moving up nicely – especially small caps and BOOM! The cruddy dollar spikes up and down goes gold and many stocks. I hate it when that happens. I have no feel for the cruddy dollar – is this a blip up or something longer? That is the question. Will the dollar rally more or resume its descent? That is the question. To be ….or not to be?
It will rally more, but in the end this will be nothing more than a blip. Nothing goes straight up, or, in this case, straight down.

Should this really be a surprise? A weaker USD means it now makes sense to make stuff here in the US. The weaker the currency gets, the more sense it makes.
