Glossing over my positions, I am down a bit this morning, no more than 0.5%. My intention, with the grace of God, buy 4G/smartphone stocks on a pullback and allocate 20% of my capital to foreign names.

Key Takeaway – Corning revised glass volume estimates higher in a press release issued ahead of today’s keynote address by CEO Wendell Weeks at Citi Tech Conference. Corning now expects wholly owned glass volumes to decline less than 5% in 3Q versus prior guidance of 5% – 10% decline. The upside in glass volumes is due to relighting of some of the capacity taken offline in Shizuoka in August as a result of an earthquake. Corning is also bringing some Taiwanese capacity online faster than previously anticipated. Volumes at SCP are still expected to be flat to slightly higher, inline with prior guidance. Net impact of disruption from Shizuoka is expected to be $25mln in sales and ~200bps in corporate gross margins; we note that this net impact is better than we had modeled…… other stuff…
Stock Call – Consensus estimates likely to move higher off today’s news and continue to be buyers of GLW. Tight supply/demand balance for LCD glass and normal channel inventory levels set stage for solid 4Q.
