In China We Trust

Personally, I think it’s a great idea selling China those pesky gas guzzling hummers. Let them destroy their side of the planet with them. It’s rather funny how China pretty much bought American in less than 20 years. For fucks sake, we were make believe fighting the Russians for 50 years. They were evil communists and that was real bad. Then, all of a sudden, next thing you know, the Chinese are slapping us in the face with treasury notes, acquiring U.S. technology by hook or crook.

Just to reiterate my position: I blame the fucking pot smoking hippies for all of our problems.

In other news, the market looks a little tired, as if it wants to take a nap. Just so you know, there is nothing wrong with taking a nap: you should try it sometime. Most of my positions are getting bowled on, with exception to MWA, RFMD, OVTI, FNSR and SFE.

Additionally, the dastardly banks look somewhat ripe to go lower. Believe me, I have no motivation to sell short banks, after seeing what the O’bama administration could do to overzealous short sellers. However, at the moment, FAZ doesn’t look half bad.

Finally, I really like the action in both FNSR and MWA. Also, FTK isn’t nosediving, following yesterday’s spike—always a good sign. I’ll be posting some buys/sells shortly.

UPDATE: I sold all of my CUZ position, north of $9.68, 25% of my RFMD position, north of $2.98 and the remainder of my SFE position.

UPDATE II: I bought 150,000 FNSR north of .78.

Interesting comment made by the Cronkite link- Stephen Jennings- about the next crisis. I worked in the same firm as this dude. He’s pretty smart.

He argues that the genesis of the next large international financial crisis is being created now as a result of the global liquidity spewed out that will find its way to the emerging markets and create an enormous imbalance.

If you’re looking for the next bubble being formed that’s were it is probably.

Let me congratulate Cronkite. He does seem to be a very good news hound.

    Cuervos:

I’ve been thinking about how to play the China/HK trade in a superior way than ETF’s as I simply don’t really trust them all that much.

Here’s my view on HK (and China). HK’s currency is basically pegged to the US dollar which of course means they run, to all intents, US monetary policy. If they were running and independent policy they wouldn’t be near as loose as US is as the economy over there has of course slowed down to recession levels but they have nowhere near the amount of leverage the US ” enjoyed”.

The point is that they are running a super charged monetary policy which is totally inappropriate to their economy and will eventually have the effect GDP growth.

Normally if they were running floating exchange rate the HK would have strengthened by now, but it can’t because of the peg.

So here’s the thing, the adjustment will have to be felt as an adjustment in asset prices which means their stock market is going to head to the moon.

Now how would you play that? EFT’s, individual stocks? Which ones?

I’m thinking all into next year, so it would be a long term position.

By the way, i spent some gambling money… instead of going to the casino i bought an Aussie/US$ Call… one year out with a strike of parity 1:1

  8. I own some TDF for Asian exposure and bubble? Look at TRF and RSX. I would have needed much Vodka to buy that Russian fund months ago.

I’d like to play Russia, but you can’t trust those douchebags not to lock you up if things go sour and the end up stealing foreigners money.

They did that to our bank in the 90’s and it almost cost me all my freaking bonus as at the time our bank had the dubious distinction of having the biggest write down of any bank in the emerging markets as a result of Russia. They lost $4.5 billion. Of course they hid most of it and reported ‘ only’ a $2 billion loss.

  12. Mobius runs the fund – I would not buy much and I would not hold forever. It appears that Russia/Eastern Europe are having money pour into their thin markets and thus the Russian fund goes up like a leveraged etf but it is not leveraged.

I am officially tired of hearing about GM news.
    I don’t give a crap.
I will never buy a GM and the Government will be incurring massive losses in the future trying to cram down the sardine cans with an engine on the American people.

I bet Bob Pisani uses the phrase, “The important thing is……” an average of three times a day, which is pretty unimaginative considering he’s in front of a camera a max of about 20 minutes a day.

I’ve heard it so often the past 10 years, it annoys the shit out of me when I hear it.

Hopefully, now that I’ve brought this to everyone’s attention, you will all start noticing it and be as annoyed as I am whenever you hear it.

Here’s a twofer: Maria’s almost as bad with her favorite phrase “where are you seeing the growth?” when she interviews executives.

    Enjoy the annoyance.
