    Hi Guys:

The rate cut was expected as they telegraphed this over the past few days.

What was really disappointing about it was the vote. Apparently it was a split vote, so it means that at least 1/2 the idiots sitting on the BOJ board want to see a serious recession develop over there before they do anything normal.

Eventually they’ll have to go to zero interest rate policy and start printing yen to stifle deflation. That will come but not this side of Xmas.

So overall I’d call it a disappointing cut as they don’t realize there’s freight train heading their way. My sense is that they’ll now cut once they really get into trouble, which is totally typical of those idiots and sort of shows why they didn’t win one single battle after the attack on Pearl harbor… They’re morons. The whole friggen lot of them.

    Moe:

Obambi will win the election. I think the market could go down on that news though. The other important feature of the election is if the former pro-slavery party ends up getting the 60 seat lock. If they do we then have to watch and see what they say. My guess hough is that Obambi will be very careful and appoint some acceptable dudes at the top so we’ll relax for a while until they start raising taxes and shit like that. The funny thing is that even if they raise cap gains tax it won’t make much difference because no one’s got any fucking cap gains anymore LOL.

Oct. 31 (Bloomberg) — Senior Plc, a U.K. maker of air ducts for commercial aircraft, rose the most in nearly 18 years in London trading on speculation that a strike at planemaker Boeing Co. will end this weekend.

Senior gained as much as 38 percent to 68.5 pence, the most since at least January 1991 and changed hands up 10.5 pence, or 21 percent, as of 11:37 a.m. local time. That pared the year’s loss to 49 percent.

Senior, based in Rickmansworth, England, receives over half its revenue from the aerospace industry and includes Boeing and Airbus SAS among its customers. Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner may help lift the parts supplier’s aerospace sales as much as 8 percent next year, Chief Executive Officer Mark Rollins said in August.

Boeing struck a deal with leaders of the machinists union earlier this week that may end strike that began Sept. 6.

The 27,000 machinists will vote this weekend on the new proposal to end a walkout that is cutting profit by about $10.3 million a day. If the contract is ratified, machinists will return to work beginning with the third shift the night of Nov. 2.

The funny thing is that even if they raise cap gains tax it won’t make much difference because no one’s got any fucking cap gains anymore LOL.

From a “finance” point of view, that’s not how it works, of course.

An increase in cap gains taxes is immediately taken out of the market’s hide in the form of a discount on all cash flows out.

The only question is if the discount has been priced in already. I would argue it is, to a strong extent, and that if McCain pulls the upset we’ll have riots on both Wall and Main Street.

I just don’t see how higher taxes on people making more than 250k and on dividends and cap gains helps the economic situation. I realize that OHB says that ” I will give tax cuts to 95% of American’s. Ok, but how much will each family get? What a thousand dollars more a year in their pocket? Is that really going to help that much. Even with the current tax cuts revenue into the treasury actually increased. I know there are some Obama maniacs on this board so will somebody please explain how his policy will help?

I just don’t see how higher taxes on people making more than 250k and on dividends and cap gains helps the economic situation.

It can’t Moe. it can’t because it diverts resources (savings) away from investment into consumption. the policy attacks savings and promotes consumption.

Seeing that rising living standards can only be derived by increasing the capital to labor ratio, obama’s tax policy would promote lower living standards as it would be much harder to increase the ratio under his economic illiterate tax plan.

The Scandinavian countries are a case in point and a excellent example of where Obambi is taking the country.

In 1972 Sweden was about the 2 or 3rd wealthiest per cap country in the world. it is now about 14th on a ppp basis after it introduced interventionist/ high tax policies at the time. As a result Sweden has a living standard equal to about Mississippi which is the poorest region in the US.

Swedish tax policy has managed to divert capital away from investment to consumption. Despite those headwinds they do ok because they are a free trade port. Obama wants to close that too to some extent.

So Obama’s tax policies are a direct attack on higher living standards.

Wrong J. Sweden kicks our as when it comes to Quality of Life. They also beat us in the Human Development index. I don’t like socialism, but too many have abused free market capitalism and are going to get punished for it. In fact, since George Bush fucktardly decided to subsidize wall street with tax payers’ money (which costs 70x that of one DECADE of Obama’s health care program), it’s only poetic justice that Obama comes in and respreads the wealth that Bush sent up, back down to the majority.

I hate discussing politics here, but I’ll through my two cents in. If Obama wins, we will need to wait and see how he handles the “old guard” of his party. He clearly had the smarts to out maneuver the Clinton machine, now he needs to put a muzzle on the Pelosi, Reid, and Dodd wingnuts of the party.

I’d like to see him bring out Rangel’s business tax cut plan (basically remove loopholes and drop the rate substantially) this would especially help small businesses and those without lobbyists or connections to get their pound of taxpayer flesh.

Maybe I’m overly optimistic. I remember telling someone who hated “W” that after elected he would do “just fine”, and he did until he stepped foot into the Iraqi mess.

Let’s just hope (OK, maybe the wrong word) that we don’t have 10 more years of BS markets (good for us traders, but not for the country as a whole).

    Charlie:

First off it’s wrong to look at the US as whole and then compare the place to much smaller European countries. I didn’t do that by the way. I showed the direction it could go if it followed the swedes.

It’s wrong because the US is a very large regionalized nation. So to compare accurately you should compare say parts of the north Eastern parts of the US such as Ct and Mass to Sweden as they are a good fit. Sweden’s arse would get kicked in, in that comparison.

Then compare Mississippi to say Greece.

When you compare you need to compare accurately.

Next up…. the free market is the best possible way we can organize ourselves to promote higher living standards.

Now you can say whatever you like to support Obama’s tax policies but they cannot and will not defy economic laws even if he prays each night.

Economics laws cannot be broken if one is looking for a better outcome.

If you divert resources towards consumption away from investment you are lowering the rate of capital accumulation which retards the capital to labor ratio. In other words you are promoting lower living standards in the future.

As I said Obama’s laws will not defeat economic laws. The US will simply not have the same growth potential as before under his policies.

Free market economy has worked exceptionally well in the US because we have massive quantities of all types of natural resources that weren’t even touched until the 1600s. The US cannot have the same growth potential no matter what. We house 5% of the world’s population, yet consume over 33% of the total natural resources harvested annually. We must restructure ourselves, and we aren’t going to have the money to do that without maintaining current taxation levels, cutting expenses, and reinventing America. Obama doesn’t fit this bill, but he’s a closer match than McCain is.

    Charles,

You’re nuts. Our only competitive advantage over the rest of the first world is our system of government with its inculcacted respect for private property and the rule of Law.

With Obama, we become another European welfare state, dying on the vine (we’re already halfway there, thanks to Johnson and FDR’s big bamboozles). Why should a smart Chinese, Indian, Frenchman, Nigerian, etc, etc, come all the way to our shores when we have the same opportunity mix as France?

    Answer — he should not.

Make no mistake — America is America (where it is today) for one reason, and that’s a constant renewal of the gene pool via the introduction of smart, hard working immigrants.

Without the attraction of the historical American opportunity, we are phucked, sideways.
