Cheesefries- No, my son didn’t qualify for the US Am. this year. He shot -5 for 36 holes but the medalist was 12 under. It kind of sucked because only two spots were allocated out of the sectional and there were at at least 12 or so who I would consider top players and could have won.
I also think of Payne Stewart every time I would walk up hole 18. He was a cool guy and used to live a few miles down the road from me before he moved to the fancy area in Isleworth where Tiger Woods and the others live. I used to see him in the grocery store once in awhile.
I like Course No.4’s layout also and it has always been in good condition.

#4 is still looking good. They played the stroke play qualifying rounds on #4 and #2 for the am. It was playing 3-4 strokes tougher than #2, mainly because they let the bermuda rough grow to 3.5 inches. Me and the wife walked it yesterday in 100% humidity, not smart. Are you going to Valhalla?

Cheesefries- No, I won’t be at the Ryder Cup, although I believe Jake is going. I’ll be watching my son play at the Carpet Collegiate (Dalton,GA) at a course called The Farm 9/12-14 and am going to try to get to Vanderbilt’s tournament in Franklin, TN (not sure) 9/26-28 so I don’t want to be away for three weekends in a row.
He has one in Nov. at Turtle Bay Resort in Oahu that I am thinking about.
Didn’t go to the North-South Am this year as he went to summer school to get his bachelors in three years (now working on his MBA during last year of eligibility). Missed staying at the Manor Inn @ Pinehurst with it’s creaky wood floors.

IMO any gap up in crude or NG should be used to sell or get short equities like OIH,XLE, USO, etc (although Tues. AM may be too late to do this depending on when the storm actually hits). Bush will release from the SPR (it’s election time) if there is a problem and that was why crude didn’t go parabolic at the end of last week. The only major problem I forsee is if the Mississippi gets backed up but it shouldn’t last long.

I still have my VLO but bought some DUG last week to hedge-didn’t like the way oil was acting. Unless there is major bowling pin action on the rigs, refiners might be the best beneficiaries-lots of gas being sold for evacuation purposes. Agree with TC that SPR will be tapped should there be any severe reaction, which might also benefit refineries, supplying cheap oil. oilview.blogspot.com has a pretty good summary everyday of bullish/bearish energy market.
