Wait, It’s Backwards Day

I will be out all day in meetings. Hence, I handed the keys over to everyone else.

I just have a few quick thoughts:

Oil and natty are tanking, while one of the biggest producers in the world is at war (Russia)?

Are you kidding me?

I understand dollar strength, but not this much weakness in gold.

Fannie Mae [[FNM]] is in big trouble. How is that good for the banks?

And, finally, RUSSIA JUST ATTACKED GEORIGIA. HOW IS THAT GOOD FOR STOCKS?

Oh boy, back to my meetings.

UPDATE: Georgia, the country Russia just attacked, is practically a member of NATO. They were supposed to be included in 2009. Aren’t us soft westerners supposed to back allies? I’m just wondering.

Off of this dip in commodities, I like VeraSun Energy Corporation [[VSE]] , Aventine Renewable Energy Holdings, Inc. [[AVR]] and Clean Energy Fuels Corp. [[CLNE]] .

Costanza day! Eventually even Paulson and the PPT won’t be able to whisk away the reality of an internal war in Russia. Georgia is not some backwards obscure republic, imho it’s the second most important Russian republic after Russia itself. Stalin came from Georgia I believe.

It is better not to trade until monday. This market wants to go higher. The fucking bulls and the PPT are working together. Even without the PPT. I see the Bulls just not giving up. If BRKA/B reports better than expected earnings after the bell. Monday will be a 300 point up day. Cover your ass! I could be wrong. I m not wrong about the risk you will take.

Fly, this market blowz. It’s waste of time, money & red bulls.

If you’re one of those options trading flakes who plays volatility, than the world is a great place, your wife is a model and every breath smells like spring.

If you trade equities, just climb onto your roof and jump off onto the driveway; the pain is no different.

Fuck this noise. I’m in cash and I’m not chasing this obvious bullshit. I hope they reverse it just to fuck the retail idiots who are greedily chasing this, “Bull.”

Besides, it’s friday. The pool is a much better alternative.

    Boca,
Georgia IS a backwards obscure little country. Check your facts.

Maybe you forgot Ukraine, and Kazakhstan just for starters. Any one of these is WAY WAY more important than Georgia, both economically and strategically.

That’s not to say that war is good. Just saying…

When it comes to war, every country is important, and war is a tragedy for people involved.

And you people seem to trust what you hear on the news about this war, but you’re very skeptical about CNBC reporting on the markets. Selective trust?

Ukraine is certainly strategically far more important, as it’s the bread basket of the region.

Georgia, backward as it may be, is strategic for both agriculture and location.

It’s the location thing — its proximity to the Black Sea and Chechnya in particular — that gives the Russkies agita.

    Jake,
Georgia’s main product is wine and oranges 🙂

You only see that the Russian are getting agitated. What about the States? Its location is the only thing why Americans are there. Georgians are known for their hot temper, it’s easy to rile them up.

They’re good people and don’t deserve to be pawns in this stupid game.

Would you like it if Florida or Texas decided to separate from the States? I think Russia is taking the whole break up well enough. A bit of history: Georgians voluntarily asked for the Russian Tzar’s protection back in the 19th century, nobody went in and conquered them. So naturally after having taken care of the country for well over 100 years Russia is a bit reluctant to let go of Georgia, esp. since it feels it’s being surround by the U.S.

One of the American politicians said that you should stop “poking the Russia in the eye”.

On an unrelated note, I’m surprised there aren’t more jokes about Medvedev’s (Russian prez) last name!

Who are you “Name”? I do know a lot more about Russia than you think, I read almost all of the books I sell on Russia and Russian History. The Ukraine is already independent, and look at how Russia holds the gas over the Ukraine’s head like a weapon, how many times in the last two years has Gazprom shut off delivery of gas to the Ukraine? Russia is using natural resources as a new kind of weapon, and quite effectively, so expect it to increase. Sounds like the beginnings of civil war to me.

Also, it is my understanding that many members of the so-called “Russian” mafia are actually Georgian, and involved in the oil/gas industry in the ex-USSR. Very interesting, I’d say.

I know, look at Josef Stalin, and Jimmah Carter!

Question about the Georgians — are they known for their “independent nature?”

And listen, I don’t blame the Russkies for trying to keep hold of their crumbling Empire. I just think it’s a losing game for them, with their demographic profile.

There’s only so many “sons” left, to sacrifice over there. This is one great way for Pooty-poot to lose the love of the people.

    Boca,
KAVKAZCENTER is a pro-Chechen anti-Russia web site. That would be like me posting a link to an al Qaeda site and telling you to go read it as a credible source of information.

“I do know a lot more about Russia than you think, I read
almost all of the books I sell on Russia and Russian History.”

You may read books, but in my book (pun!) experience beats book knowledge any day. I’ll just leave it at that – I have personal experience with USSR/Georgia/Ukraine/Russia.

    “The Ukraine is already independent”

That’s funny. About 70% of companies and property that are of any significance in Ukraine are owned by the Russians.

“and look at how Russia holds the gas over the Ukraine’s head like a weapon, how many times in the last two years has Gazprom shut off delivery of gas to the Ukraine?”

No matter what you may read, Yuschenko and Timoshenko are dispised by the people in Ukraine, and it’s the asshattery of these two people that pretty much forced Russia to behave like a thug.

    Jake,
“are they known for their “independent nature””

Yes, they are… but before the whole USSR debacle (and I’m talking about the split) all of those smaller nations lived happily together. And I don’t mean in the way the Black people are tolerated in the States. Nobody ever made any distinction as to the ethnic origin or religious affiliation of others, truly, not just on the surface. That was definitely a positive side of the Union.

I never said I thought the website itself was credible, but I do think the comments on Putin’s motivation in the current conflict were worthy of some thought.

A lot of your comments have a faint whiff of Pro-Russia propaganda … oh I mean, official views… about them. Like I said, who are you and where are you from?

Oh, and watch what you say about black people dude, that’s the last time I’m going to say that. Pay attention to one of the sayings on the website header, it says, “You can get shot in this neighborhood.”

Give me a break. The ethnic Russians tolerated other ethnicities that looked like them but were from differnt regions? And you’re going to compare that to black white relations in the U.S.?

If the Russian Confederacy had any black people to speak of, perhaps we could make the comparison. However, in my brief dealings with the ex-pat Russkies in Brighton Beach, ovah heah, I would posit that they were not exactly the picture of “tolerance” w. regard to the schwartzahs. (I know, Yiddish, not Russian, but you get my drift).

What did I say about Black people that may get me shot? I lived in the South (of the US) for a few years and only speak about my observations.

And why are you so angry? I like your more agreeable bland self.

    Jake,
Brighton Beach is not a true representation of the Russians. Please believe me. In fact, Brighton Beach people belong to just about the only ethnic group that was never well tolerated in Russia (and in Britain, too, by the way).

I’m going to stop now, but just want to say – I’m sad to see that you people are still so set against Russia. It’s like 1960’s all over again.

It’s not that at all, Name. For the life of me, I don’t understand why you want to go into so much detail defending Russian views without anybody knowing who you are and what your agenda is.

My friend is retired from her job in the US and married a ‘russian’ man, they live part time there. So she’s not working in Kiev.

I think you have a stereotyped view 1) about Russia’s actions, and that 2) Americans don’t know much about Russia. That’s what got me a little angry, well, that and Scum Bucket acting out on one of my favorite sites. It got me a little stressed.

Personally I think “bland” is not a word that describes me.

And listen, no one is against the Russian people, ovah heah. I myself have a medium sized private equity investment in Siberia, of all places, and I hope it blossoms. But Putin makes U.S. investors nervous, as he seems to be styling himself something between a nationalizing socialist (and you know where that goes) and a Tsar. Old rugs can make a night and day difference where you live. Plus, rugs that were made pre-colonization (i.e. not originally for profit) can have some awesome stories behind them. Around the time of Attaturk in the early 20th century, a lot of nomadic tribes were forced to stay in one region. These people used to roam all over the middle east, and their animals would feed along the way. The stagnation caused great famine amongst nomadic people, as their animals starved – and it forced them to make rugs & sell them to support themselves. So I look for rugs made pre-fuckery.

This one, for example, is called a Lesghi Star. It is from the Caucasas. These people were mountain dwelling falconers. They built huts very high up in the sides of mountains, and trained falcons and shit. The color change in the blue vegetable dye could be due to a seasonal supply issue (snow blocking the route to the river where they get that color, for example), or a regional conflict which may have prevented the weavers from accessing the dye.

These people were bad-ass. They kicked old men down mountains when they got out of hand.

    DSB–

    True-dat. Those bitches were tough.

There’s a reason their world famous red pigment — found only in their rugs — is called “Romanian Goat Herder Crimson.”

    lol Jake…

Tell your Iranian friend that I used Apple Cider Vinegar and natural soap to hand-wash the rug. I learned this from an expert who sells $20K – $200K rugs & knows what’s up. Show him the pictures and axe him what he thinks.

    Gregory, fuck off.

Way up in the mountains here, some guy was herd muttering to himself ‘this rally is egregious’ .. then he began to refer to himself as a Fly.

I’ve ordered a straight jacket, Commie style.
