I will be out all day in meetings. Hence, I handed the keys over to everyone else.
I just have a few quick thoughts:
Oil and natty are tanking, while one of the biggest producers in the world is at war (Russia)?
Are you kidding me?
I understand dollar strength, but not this much weakness in gold.
Fannie Mae [[FNM]] is in big trouble. How is that good for the banks?
And, finally, RUSSIA JUST ATTACKED GEORIGIA. HOW IS THAT GOOD FOR STOCKS?
Oh boy, back to my meetings.
UPDATE: Georgia, the country Russia just attacked, is practically a member of NATO. They were supposed to be included in 2009. Aren’t us soft westerners supposed to back allies? I’m just wondering.
Off of this dip in commodities, I like VeraSun Energy Corporation [[VSE]] , Aventine Renewable Energy Holdings, Inc. [[AVR]] and Clean Energy Fuels Corp. [[CLNE]] .

Reality will catch up with the markets next week.
Place yer bets.
Hopefully you’ll get shit-canned at the meeting.
Costanza day! Eventually even Paulson and the PPT won’t be able to whisk away the reality of an internal war in Russia. Georgia is not some backwards obscure republic, imho it’s the second most important Russian republic after Russia itself. Stalin came from Georgia I believe.
It seemed pretty obvious yesterday, someone wants options to expire with the S&P around 1290.
Scum Bucket, go wear that latrine bucket of yours on your head, I hear your bitchez like it.
I’m going out. Major purchases will be made … for my biz. Cheers all.
What kind of meetings does a guy like “The Fly” attend?
Fly,
Since when has a war ever driven up oil prices?
I hear your bitchez like it.
the dude like your mouf.
The GPPT will close this market over SPX 1290 today, with the assistance of taxpayer money to set up an up opening for all the breakout players monday.
It is better not to trade until monday. This market wants to go higher. The fucking bulls and the PPT are working together. Even without the PPT. I see the Bulls just not giving up. If BRKA/B reports better than expected earnings after the bell. Monday will be a 300 point up day. Cover your ass! I could be wrong. I m not wrong about the risk you will take.
Fly, this market blowz. It’s waste of time, money & red bulls.
If you’re one of those options trading flakes who plays volatility, than the world is a great place, your wife is a model and every breath smells like spring.
If you trade equities, just climb onto your roof and jump off onto the driveway; the pain is no different.
Fuck this noise. I’m in cash and I’m not chasing this obvious bullshit. I hope they reverse it just to fuck the retail idiots who are greedily chasing this, “Bull.”
Besides, it’s friday. The pool is a much better alternative.

All of you punks are my wall of worry…Want some cover bonds??
Economics schmeconomics.
Mr. Merlin and Mr. Market are egregiously intertwined like a mistress and her lover.
This tequila in my coffee is kinda good.
Commies attacking Georgia??
What the fuck, let me get my gun, it’s only about five hours down I-75, after all….
Oh I wish I was in the land of cotton,
Old times there, are not forgotton,
Call to Arms!
Call to Arms!
Call to Arms!*
Dixieland!

Boca,
Georgia IS a backwards obscure little country. Check your facts.
Maybe you forgot Ukraine, and Kazakhstan just for starters. Any one of these is WAY WAY more important than Georgia, both economically and strategically.
That’s not to say that war is good. Just saying…
When it comes to war, every country is important, and war is a tragedy for people involved.
And you people seem to trust what you hear on the news about this war, but you’re very skeptical about CNBC reporting on the markets. Selective trust?
Name- They’re both important.
Ukraine for all the little nukes they probably have floating around from the Commie days.
Kazakhstan is self-explainable.
Ukraine is certainly strategically far more important, as it’s the bread basket of the region.
Georgia, backward as it may be, is strategic for both agriculture and location.
It’s the location thing — its proximity to the Black Sea and Chechnya in particular — that gives the Russkies agita.
_______
There is definitely fuckery afoot.
Isn’t it interesting how Russia & China are NOT playing GPPT ball? Russia fucking with public companies (MTL) and starting wars; China letting Shanghai drop 5% in front of the Orympics.
Beware of them teaming up against us in the event of the next big one – WW3.
Jake,
Georgia’s main product is wine and oranges 🙂
You only see that the Russian are getting agitated. What about the States? Its location is the only thing why Americans are there. Georgians are known for their hot temper, it’s easy to rile them up.
They’re good people and don’t deserve to be pawns in this stupid game.
Would you like it if Florida or Texas decided to separate from the States? I think Russia is taking the whole break up well enough. A bit of history: Georgians voluntarily asked for the Russian Tzar’s protection back in the 19th century, nobody went in and conquered them. So naturally after having taken care of the country for well over 100 years Russia is a bit reluctant to let go of Georgia, esp. since it feels it’s being surround by the U.S.
One of the American politicians said that you should stop “poking the Russia in the eye”.
On an unrelated note, I’m surprised there aren’t more jokes about Medvedev’s (Russian prez) last name!
Medved = Bear
Juice,
congratulations, your brainwashing program was completed succesfully. You may remove the tape now.
Who are you “Name”? I do know a lot more about Russia than you think, I read almost all of the books I sell on Russia and Russian History. The Ukraine is already independent, and look at how Russia holds the gas over the Ukraine’s head like a weapon, how many times in the last two years has Gazprom shut off delivery of gas to the Ukraine? Russia is using natural resources as a new kind of weapon, and quite effectively, so expect it to increase. Sounds like the beginnings of civil war to me.
Keep trying Mr. Market but you can’t hide divergence!
Mr/Ms “Name”, here’s a link to an interesting article about some of the motivations behind the conflict between Georgia and Russia:
http://www.kavkazcenter.com/eng/content/2008/07/12/9977.shtml
Also, it is my understanding that many members of the so-called “Russian” mafia are actually Georgian, and involved in the oil/gas industry in the ex-USSR. Very interesting, I’d say.
Nameski–
Georgians are known for their hot temper, it’s easy to rile them up.
I know, look at Josef Stalin, and Jimmah Carter!
Question about the Georgians — are they known for their “independent nature?”
And listen, I don’t blame the Russkies for trying to keep hold of their crumbling Empire. I just think it’s a losing game for them, with their demographic profile.
There’s only so many “sons” left, to sacrifice over there. This is one great way for Pooty-poot to lose the love of the people.
Boca,
KAVKAZCENTER is a pro-Chechen anti-Russia web site. That would be like me posting a link to an al Qaeda site and telling you to go read it as a credible source of information.
“I do know a lot more about Russia than you think, I read
almost all of the books I sell on Russia and Russian History.”
You may read books, but in my book (pun!) experience beats book knowledge any day. I’ll just leave it at that – I have personal experience with USSR/Georgia/Ukraine/Russia.
“The Ukraine is already independent”
That’s funny. About 70% of companies and property that are of any significance in Ukraine are owned by the Russians.
“and look at how Russia holds the gas over the Ukraine’s head like a weapon, how many times in the last two years has Gazprom shut off delivery of gas to the Ukraine?”
No matter what you may read, Yuschenko and Timoshenko are dispised by the people in Ukraine, and it’s the asshattery of these two people that pretty much forced Russia to behave like a thug.
Jake,
“are they known for their “independent nature””
Yes, they are… but before the whole USSR debacle (and I’m talking about the split) all of those smaller nations lived happily together. And I don’t mean in the way the Black people are tolerated in the States. Nobody ever made any distinction as to the ethnic origin or religious affiliation of others, truly, not just on the surface. That was definitely a positive side of the Union.
I want to make it official. I think Erin B is way hotter than Becky Q.
I bow to the Russian expert. Happy now? I guess my friend who lives part-time in Kiev doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
I never said I thought the website itself was credible, but I do think the comments on Putin’s motivation in the current conflict were worthy of some thought.
A lot of your comments have a faint whiff of Pro-Russia propaganda … oh I mean, official views… about them. Like I said, who are you and where are you from?
Oh, and watch what you say about black people dude, that’s the last time I’m going to say that. Pay attention to one of the sayings on the website header, it says, “You can get shot in this neighborhood.”
Nameski —
Give me a break. The ethnic Russians tolerated other ethnicities that looked like them but were from differnt regions? And you’re going to compare that to black white relations in the U.S.?
If the Russian Confederacy had any black people to speak of, perhaps we could make the comparison. However, in my brief dealings with the ex-pat Russkies in Brighton Beach, ovah heah, I would posit that they were not exactly the picture of “tolerance” w. regard to the schwartzahs. (I know, Yiddish, not Russian, but you get my drift).
_
Russians are a bunch of potato eating, alcoholic, chess playing fucks. Fuck them.
Latvians are fascist dicks. Fuck them.
Exactly, Jake. Not to mention the pogroms against Jewish people, and Stalin’s labor camps. Where’s the moral high ground in that past?
And how about those Estonians and Lithuanians?
Boca,
depending on what your friend does in Kiev, she may be in the specific layer of the society that benefits from the new government. That layer is very thin.
What did I say about Black people that may get me shot? I lived in the South (of the US) for a few years and only speak about my observations.
And why are you so angry? I like your more agreeable bland self.
Jake,
Brighton Beach is not a true representation of the Russians. Please believe me. In fact, Brighton Beach people belong to just about the only ethnic group that was never well tolerated in Russia (and in Britain, too, by the way).
I’m going to stop now, but just want to say – I’m sad to see that you people are still so set against Russia. It’s like 1960’s all over again.
Estonians and Lithuanians are quite fucked up as well, wearing SS uniforms at parades and digging up Russian graves. Nazi bastards.
It’s not that at all, Name. For the life of me, I don’t understand why you want to go into so much detail defending Russian views without anybody knowing who you are and what your agenda is.
My friend is retired from her job in the US and married a ‘russian’ man, they live part time there. So she’s not working in Kiev.
I think you have a stereotyped view 1) about Russia’s actions, and that 2) Americans don’t know much about Russia. That’s what got me a little angry, well, that and Scum Bucket acting out on one of my favorite sites. It got me a little stressed.
Personally I think “bland” is not a word that describes me.
Also, do I have to say it out loud? my family is mixed racially.
What about the Poles, Czechs and Slovaks? got a few words for them too?
Fuck all of them, except Latvians of course.
Tread lightly, ‘Name’, in case you’re pondering a response.
Badmouthing my homies from the Czech Republic & Slovakia will get you shot.
Same goes for you, ‘Latvian Larry’.
Boca: You should spend more time looking for good trades rather than defending your race and all the other races of the world.
NOW: Back to whats important. Becky or Erin. I am a bit biased towards Erin, but clearly its Erin, right ???
The fly leaves us for one afternoon and look what happens to this blog.
You can probably tell I am not trading much today either 🙂
Reg FD: Full Disclosure: I am a white Male.
Nameski —
Are you talking about gangsters or Jews in Brighton? The Russkie’s record with the Juden is not exactly “strong” you know, another historical fact that gives me pause w. regard to your “tolerance” level.
And listen, no one is against the Russian people, ovah heah. I myself have a medium sized private equity investment in Siberia, of all places, and I hope it blossoms. But Putin makes U.S. investors nervous, as he seems to be styling himself something between a nationalizing socialist (and you know where that goes) and a Tsar. Without the rule of law, Russia will be in trouble.
___
Gregory, I hear you about not trading, we always seem to argue more here when not trading. I am about to go back to work the rest of day in my book business, and let the stock market stew in it’s own juices. I had quite enough ‘fun’ already today blowing off steam here.
Full Disclosure: I don’t find either Becky Quick or Erin Burnett attractive. However, Bill Ackman is quite hot.
To quote GW: Peace out.
Dpeez —
Czech out the Czech babes. What a shame (and waste) they were hidden behind the Iron Curtain for so long.

The FD wasn’t needed. You’d already disclosed.
Heres the SPX 1290 breakout ordered up by the GPPT, in time for weekend theatrics. Look for them to throw fuel on the bears fire come Monday am. They want 1290 established as support. Don’t mess. It looks like they’ll get their way.
I am also very much appreciative of Hungarian girls.
DPeez, you were born in Czech Republic??
What an internation cast we’ve assembled here.
Ottnot, for example, is from the seat of the Ottoman Empire, Turkministan.
__
I apologize to everyone for arguing today.
Damn, calling a girl bland is like telling her her hair sucks. Ouch. Boca, I don’t think you’re bland…
Czech girls are the hottest, swedish the loosest. In fact, depending on who wins the presidency, I may be blogging from my new home in prague.
I want to thank Fly for inviting me to guest host this here blog.
Seeing as how the Turkish horde decimated Central Europe several times, I now must dislike ‘ottnot’.
From personal experience, Icelandic girls are the loosest.
FD: I’ve never been to Sweden.
thanks Danny, it kind of made me laugh, actually.
I just need to learn better use of the mental ignore button. Always learning and progressing, that’s me 🙂
I have a 150 year old Turkoman carpet sitting in my living room. They were a tough people, kind of like the Klingons of the middle east.

Awww, c’mon, that’s just the Junk Spread Danny talkin’. No way you trade beautiful San Diego County for chilly cold biscuit Eastern Europe.
I don’t care how many “bitchin’ skate plazas” are available.
__
DSB — that’s a tough carpet.
You may want to unlock the wallet and have it professionaly cleaned, though. My Iranian rug merchant buddy here in town would have your hands cut off by his emissaries if he saw those photos.
___
Boca: Your liking of the silver hair fox that is Bill Ackman, must surely be questioned. I can imagine the fascinating pillow talk that would transpire if you two ever hook up, however the guy is a short seller, and those guys will sell you short the second you turn you back. Not to be trusted of course.
Maybe you would like to reconsider and choose a long biased man ?
DSB: Oh dear. 150 years old you say ? Looks like you bought it just last week from the “discount bin” at Walmart. rofl.
P.S: I now wish I had spent the afternoon scalping some AMZN instead of reading blogs, and emails 🙁
Haha, I know.
“No way you trade beautiful San Diego County for chilly cold biscuit Eastern Europe.

Hilarious. You do know me. BTW, skate plazas are the way of the future, I wish there was one here!

DSB, that rug really ties the room together, right?
oil is fucking dead. see you at 112 next week. as usual, the oil/gas companies are going to lose a ton on fouled hedging again next quarter. good to know that mexico was the smartest guy in the room when they wanted to lock in 5yrs worth of production at $130 several weeks back.
i wonder how many pension funds are receiving the ‘nymex donkey punch’ right now..
DPeezy, yeah.
Old rugs can make a night and day difference where you live. Plus, rugs that were made pre-colonization (i.e. not originally for profit) can have some awesome stories behind them. Around the time of Attaturk in the early 20th century, a lot of nomadic tribes were forced to stay in one region. These people used to roam all over the middle east, and their animals would feed along the way. The stagnation caused great famine amongst nomadic people, as their animals starved – and it forced them to make rugs & sell them to support themselves. So I look for rugs made pre-fuckery.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/LINKEDPUBLIC/R1sskIvwjpI/AAAAAAAALVM/X1SV1XEYSeE/s800/DSC_0349.JPG
This one, for example, is called a Lesghi Star. It is from the Caucasas. These people were mountain dwelling falconers. They built huts very high up in the sides of mountains, and trained falcons and shit. The color change in the blue vegetable dye could be due to a seasonal supply issue (snow blocking the route to the river where they get that color, for example), or a regional conflict which may have prevented the weavers from accessing the dye.
These people were bad-ass. They kicked old men down mountains when they got out of hand.
DSB–
True-dat. Those bitches were tough.
There’s a reason their world famous red pigment — found only in their rugs — is called “Romanian Goat Herder Crimson.”
___
That’s a cool story and all…just make sure nobody pisses on that rug.
Also, Kayser Soze was a Turk. Now that’s badass.
“The Fly” has banned your fuckery. Go to the Peanut Gallery, or better yet, Wood’s blog.
lol Jake…
Tell your Iranian friend that I used Apple Cider Vinegar and natural soap to hand-wash the rug. I learned this from an expert who sells $20K – $200K rugs & knows what’s up. Show him the pictures and axe him what he thinks.
Gregory, fuck off.
Gergory, how could I not love a face like this:
