FXP follows DJIA/SPX because of expectation that DJIA/SPX will lead Hang Seng. Hang Seng does not lead FXP. Hence, FXP priced in the move and no ball ripping currently for FXP holders other than what already happened today.

True, but not completely. We do tend to follow the S&P500, with more erratic swings, but there are many other regional factors that play into what happens here. For example, we were up around 40% between August and October. Nothing to do with the US markets, and everything to do with the “Through Train”. The through train is a scheme under development in China, to allow retail investors to invest directly in HK stocks. We trade at around 60% discount to the Shanghai listed companies that trade here as well.
Shanghai consists of around 90% retail investors, Hong Kong is around 26% retail. This explains the dramatic swings on any news story, and the historical reliance on the US markets to lead the way.
Lets not forget the gambling mentality of the bloody Chinese… they’re what we Aussies call “mug punters”!
PS: HSI up 4.06% today! My own portfolio is up 5.25%! Fuck you shorts!
