For those that asked, here is a quick look at LT equity positions and basis. Again, only positions from the IRA, not stocks I am holding in my trading account.
AAPL – 4% @ $96.60
UA – 5% @ $89.70
AMBA – 8% @ $53.70
LULU – 6% @ $53.50
AKS – 4% @ $4.85
NOV – 4% @ $48.50
BABA – 10% @ $82.50
YELP – 5% @ $33.00
BYD – 4% @ $12.90
BAC – 5% @ $15.00
SCCO – 2% @ $29.80
TWTR – 6% @ $43.50
FSLR – 13% $41.50
My plan is to lighten $BABA into strength, and add to $AMBA and $TWTR into weakness in the next couple months.
I think this will be the year for $FSLR, $LULU and $BYD and will book gains on them as they reach targets.
My trading account is lathered in some good materials/energy buys this year…only one ($CHK) had I planned to buy in the LT account, but didn’t. I mention this only to hedge the questions about $X, $FCX, $ATW, and all other positions I am managing in my active account.

Should’ve sold my FCX and followed you into FIT last week. Ugh…
What about OIL why is no one ready to long crude. What are you putting in your cars these days
OA, first off, thanks for providing this transparency into your long term holds. It’s very useful and extremely helpful.
I’ve got a couple follow up questions for you. First, is the remaining ~25% of your IRA in cash, which would be deployed into the weakness of AMBA and TWTR, or a mix of cash and other small holdings? Second, is this allocation you typically try to maintain?
Again, thank you so much for this insight.
These need to be adjusted actually, as I had a $SUNE position go bad. There is some cash available, and will use it to make the adjustments I mentioned. I’m just over 90% invested.
Thanks for the response and insight, your help is invaluable.
Liking the risk to reward in VRX here (26.88)
OA – TY for sharing! Love the transparency and brutal honesty.
Thanks for posting. I share FSLR, AMBA, UA and TWTR.
When you say you want to add to AMBA on weakness, you mean further weakness? It has been beaten down pretty bad up until a week ago.
What targets are you setting on BABA and FSLR?
UA is an interesting one. Always hard for me to buy because of the valuation, but I know that I want to own a lot more of it.
Congrats on getting out of SUNE before the most recent disaster. I hold a very small position that I am prepared to let go to $0 on that one. Not smart but also not even worth selling at this point.
No, I rode $SUNE all the way down. All happened so fast.
I’d buy $AMBA at $40. Make it a 10% position.
$BABA $95, $FSLR $100.
My thanks.
Can’t you just smell the setup for TBT and Oil to move higher tomorrow. I will not hesitate to reverse and short aggressively if a weekly close below 35 becomes reality.
I’m not concerned with spikes into 34ville during thin o/n trading.
haha. you’ve been saying this for a few weeks
Appreciate the transparency, Jeff. I’m the asshole sitting high up on (depleted) Cash Mountain throwing rocks at all of the moves you guys have been in the last few weeks. Picked up a few calls today to see if I’m still alive.
Thank you for sharing. This is some insane transparency.
Would $VSLR ever land in there? Amazingly, they are to levels of that private placement!
I am intrigued to see a lack of Biotech in there. I think I remember you just sold $MYGN though. My only name in LT is $SGEN, but I am stalking to get $JUNO again. I had a good trade in it, and wanted to add it to the LT account on a dip, but got trigger shy when it was staring me in the face. I also had a mind about $PACB, but obviously that ran way too far at this point and I’d need either a major dip or major consolidation.
This is a timely posting as I have room to add a few new positions to my LT with the good $VA news.
Yes, I’ve been watching it, actually.
Damnit. If you’re still long TWTR from $43 that tells me that not everyone has been smoked-out yet 🙁 I want to get long but I’m not paying more than $15/shr.
I was out all of my big TWTR position at $72. Started buying again and never bought the last batch. I’ll have to make it a double digit allocation.
I would consider swapping AIG for BA. And where’s your healthcare?
I mean BAC.
Sold all my healthcare Q1 of 2014. Had too much of it.
AIG is too slow, no thanks.
OA, thanks for sharing! Am with you on FSLR.
Thanks for sharing, OA.
Haha, don’t go after my names bro.
