Do you sell GMCR if it takes out yesterday’s low?
If it does take it out, probably good idea to see the follow up moves then decide.
Break out your sentiment chart (which should be taped to your wall) and overlay with the 3 day chart for GMCR. Determine where we are in the sentiment cycle (hint – expect a pop, a pullback, inside trading, then a break).
There ARE reference highs for this stock – construct your trade plan accordingly.
So far it’s rejected the lows and remember this is a reversal play, meaning you will have some shorts fighting it for a bit – normal and expected. In this case, gravity wants to pull it UP.

Good analysis lanforce. On a one year chart it looks like wall of worry. On a 5 day chart it looks like just getting out of aversion. No?
I think aversion was when the sucker bottomed last week before starting to reverse. So I read it as wall of worry, which is why I expect a pullback or two and then a break. Internal target (I’m holding calls) is 64.50 to 65.
Not on a day like today, of course – however option prices seem to be holding, so I do think there is confidence on a rise.
Newbie AHWOA member here. Busy watching everything & trying to catch up. Looks to me like GMCR is in “Denial” part of cycle. Am I reading chart correctly?
This is a great stock for us all to hone our skills – my take on it is above your post and StocksRider is above that. I think lots of folks are in this trade and it might be fun to see the different takes on the current chart.

The top 5 gainers today are in medical or biotech and all news and event driven. So nothing of universal appeal to keep the overall breadth high. I feel that if it continues to go down today and tomorrow the dip will be bought in anticipation of first of month buying. Thoughts anyone?

I’m digging the odds for PLCM with a stop under the day’s lows. Good volume post-earnings down days, sitting at the lower channel and at trend line support.
If anyone is interested in a long term health stock, take a look at HZNP. I had been holding it for a while and nicely up. Today it released successful clinical trials and was subject to “sell the news” plunge. Still up for me and I am thinking of buying more. Would love to hear any analysis OA or others might have to offer.

The market has been better today and it has been worse. Â What it is at the moment is little changed.
The S&P 500 is down just 0.2% in a trade that appears to be marking time until the FOMC directive is released at 2:00 p.m. ET. Â The run the market has had in the last three weeks has been predicated in large part on the belief that the Fed isn’t going to make its first tapering decision until March or April of 2014. Â
We can’t rule out a sell-the-news response to a directive that reads as expected, but any hint in the language that a tapering could occur before the aforementioned dates could very well lead to some more pronounced selling interest. Â For the time being, there hasn’t been a lot of buying or selling conviction in the large-cap space, yet small caps are continuing a more recent trend of underperformance.
The Russell 2000 is down 0.9% today.

FOMC Maintains Policy Course

The major averages have ticked up from their recent levels as participants digest the just-released FOMC policy statement, which reaffirmed the central bank’s intention to maintain its current policy course. The directive said the Fed will await more evidence before making decisions regarding the size of its asset purchases.
The announcement was met with a sell-the-news reaction in the bond market as Treasuries fell from their highs. The benchmark 10-yr yield is now higher by one basis point at 2.51%. Meanwhile, the Dollar Index also saw an initial move lower, but has since returned into positive territory. The index sits just above its flat line at 79.64
my entire account is down almost 30% this week. Long term stock holds, options, couple junk bonds, all red.
partly my fault. Didn’t protect gains in APOL weeklies, X, and CRUS.
The only positions up are Intel and some TZA I picked up for a slight hedge.

Resist the urge to “do something”. It’s a crappy day to be trading.

one problem with that argument is that the urge to do something could have gotten you out of X yesterday before the close for a huge gain…..or out of various other positions on the pop instead of sitting in them and watching them bleed. There is a delicate balance between actively managing and sitting waiting with your fingers crossed.

Agreed – but X was a purely binary decision to hold through earnings or not. My trade plan had the sell trigger in at 25 and while I didn’t catch the top, I wasn’t around for the sell off either.
I guess my point was that non event driven paper losses today when there is time left on the option can lead to foolish moves. If the initial trade was fundamentally sound and the entry was right, it should play out.
I hate these October markets.

Looks like some profit taking and earnings shake out. We are in grind mode here, we have fund flows the first of the month and lots of time on these options, I am cautiously optimistic.
I think what I’m learning is that when one is wrong in options and makes a decision to cut losses it is hard to avoid a 50% loss in premium. Sometimes if the finger is not on the trigger it ends up being 60-70% loss. Too many of those and not enough 100-300% winners can kill the portfolio even with appropriate position sizing. I’m looking at BYD today and trying to wait till the close but am already sitting on 60%+ loss in premium in that one. Just my thoughts.

Not a bad trade setup with 45 puts selling @2.75.
More than one analyst has this targeted as a 60 dollar stock.
bought SCTY…..with a bit of wiggle room, this should be a good entry. Also bought RVLT with a stop just under low couple of days ago.
at what point are you wrong and exit on SCTY? just trying to help you out…not saying good or bad on SCTY, though maybe you’ve already answered by saying a bit of wiggle room…just cap it short if it goes down on you. imo
would like to see it hold $52.65 on a closing basis….$53.50 preferrable…..thus, wiggle room. Has support there.

Another lesson learned from OA – don’t try and wring EVERY penny from a trade.
Using PXD as the example, I got out yesterday just under 215. Yes, it hit 216 for about 10 seconds today, then proceeded to fall like a rock down to 210 and then down to 205. What are the odds I could have timed that chart-top AND gotten filled.
Better a buck or two left on the table, the 2/3 of my profit in someone elses pocket.
I’m sure we’ve all ridden some exits down trying to get filled above, and by the end of it, we should have just filled right away at a lower price lol

Good question for AH. Holding to see in some initiative buyers would show up at the $12.75 support level and either drive it up, or at least give opportunity to sell into strength

why not wait until earnings tomorrow? my calls are -70%…..so, I’m happy to risk the final 30% on a good report that propels the stock to $15+
That may work but after the experience with CRUS today these earnings plays are as good as a coin flip IMO. Hey, now that I’m out you all may just have a chance:-)
Got rid of my IWM puts and VIX calls. Added more CLF. Wanting to add more ISRG and HZNP. And followed OA on IDRA. I had a stupid LNKD and AAPL yolo trade yesterday. Had it not been for those, my portfolio would actually be up today.
Also yolo trade – SBUX
sold AAPL, my little whore. I was fond of her. She gave me good times. I should have let her go yesterday morning before she went down on me, but I got suckered in a bit longer. I’ll give her some time to realize her mistakes, then perhaps try a call.
