I have a book of about 10 long term stock positions that don’t get included in these lists, btw.
Have also raised some cash in the last several days to start a long term basket of biotech/genetics plays. If you know me, I am wildly bullish on this theme, for I believe the opportunities there will be second only to the invention of the internet.
I might discuss some of these ideas here throughout the week.

Dear OA: What do you think of an August 55 Call on HFL ? The only problem is, it looks expensive. Way too expensive.
what’s HFL? Symbol does not exist.
Using options to chase stocks is a tough strategy.
Just be prepared to lose the entire premium.

OA what do you think of owning a biotech ETF for people who can’t spend time researching individual biotech stocks? Here is my reasoning behind the ETFs, besides the usual explanation given . Feel free to poke holes: Unlike web 2.0 or social internet, cash infusion and maturity of the company may matter significantly more in case of biotech research. Because the top 10 holdings of an ETF are typically more matured companies with decent cash flow, it reasons that biotech ETFs may be a very good substitute and more so in this sector than others. Thoughts?

I purposely want to avoid the ETF in this instance.
I am selecting stocks that I think will see huge returns in the coming years. By going with the ETF, I am avoiding being overexposed to AMGN, GILD, BIIB, etc. I want the risk of the little guy here. There are huge returns to be made and I don’t want their diversification model. I want my own.

Thank you for coming back to this post and responding. Makes sense. I am looking forward to your research as I see great promise in biotech as well. One other promising and faintly related area is the advancement in medical and biomedical equipments. Wonder what you think about it. Probably you won’t see this post as it is old, so will ask you again at some time in future.
