As long as the American electorate is concerned with things like not allowing homosexuals to marry, denying women abortions, teaching religions crap in schools, putting George Bush on trial or stifling criticisms of religion instead of caring about the real issues facing the country you will be represented by self-serving demagogues. (Yes, I realize most of the crazy things up there are right wing views, I threw the last 2 on because this is not a problem unique to the Republicans. Perhaps one of our right-leaning readers would like to provide the examples of leftist extremism.)
Of course, being educated on the actual issues has an insurmountable barrier entry to most Americans: focusing reading something for more than 5 minutes that isn’t about sports.
