Uncle Sam Asleep Again

I just sat through Gasland on good old NFLX.

Don’t get me wrong; we need an  alternative energy supply, but not if we destroy what has nurtured  us into existence.

Any way if you can watch this documentary and still come out kosher on fracking then i think you need your head examined. I will be happy to pay for the medical cost of your psychological evaluation.

I still have to dig for more facts, but i have been down this road before….fact checking usually makes me sick to my stomach.

To be fair i also offer a counter punch most likely paid for by the industry.

As a last comment on this; if the ill results turn out to be entirely true then America has been castrated of any moral decency for his fellow citizens, mother earth, and any fabric of what this country once stood for.

    I appreciate you taking the time to post the counter. It’d be pretty easy to watch a 2-hour, emotionally stirring documentary and immediately posting in support of its findings. I have to say I haven’t seen the documentary, but just from the 10-minute clip, my inclination is to ignore anything that’s so patently monolithic. Never compares NG to oil drilling, nuclear power, etc. Of course, maybe I’d have a different take if I watched the entire thing.

    Fact: Billion dollar corporations paid for this message so that we can rape and pillage your land so you can happily have cancer, brain damage, and fire water. If you ask nicely we’ll send you Talisman’s colouring book.

    Issue is slowly getting banned in Canada…protest works here sometimes.

    @pedro,
    monolithic or not it is every persons duty to discover the truth and weigh all pros and cons.

    Some will say if your not informed then you can not effect change.

    Like many debacles in human history we will have to sleep in the beds we make.

    @cronkite: I’m completely on board with fact finding and rooting out evil. All I’m saying is that you can do a similar documentary on the effects of oil drilling, nuclear energy, etc. and make many of the same claims. I’d love to know how natural gas production compares to these types of energy production. For example, maybe if we produce more NG, the less rigs we have to build off shore and be subject to the risks of another BP oil spill.

    you’d have to be completely out of your mind to not realize that deep pockets also pay for the dramatic anti-industry documentary(ies) themselves.

    its all bs. straight facts would be pretty boring and not likely to raise a ruckus, sell DVD rentals, and so forth…

    Christ, if you want to dig deep enough into anything you’ll find under lying issues. If oil and gas was (they probably are – i’ll take a million dollar lobbyist cheque to elaborate) so inclined to smear solar, they could find areas where lithium mines caused irreversible damage to the environment and networks of natural water cycle. A student enrolled in high school biology could list potential hazards of pumping poison, carcinogens, and other foreign/chemically created materials into the ground and causing an earthquake. Who knows maybe Gasland was funded by Kuwait Oil.

    Tangent:
    Why the hell are independent lobbyist based or funded groups trusted as a source on anything? All their listed “facts” are so convoluted it is disgusting. Does the majority of the American population ever think about what they watch on TV, or is it automatically accepted as truth. I am increasingly worried about the later.
