JEREMY GRANTHAM: We’re Headed For A Disaster Of Biblical Proportions

Apparently Grantham thinks we have gone through a tipping point where the planet’s resources can not support the population.

Perhaps he wrote the Georgia Guides Stones…..lol

Supply is not the issue, but more like distribution and waste are the real problems.

What? How much does he think population has changed in the last three years to warrent the boom in commodity prices.

Obviously, we can’t point to the fact that the currency in circulation has tripled (or more) and everyone is scared of dollar devaluation.

Yep can’t be the obvious. Must be explosive population growth.

He’s right in that the planets resources are most certainly finite. There will be a tipping point, at some point. THe day of reckoning cometh. Before that, there will be another Global War, this time over resources. Unless man gains control over population & irresponsible thinking and acting; highly unlikely at this point, most unfortunately.

Yeah, we won’t “run out” of natural resources most likely, but it will become very difficult to find it at a reasonable price and it’s possible that unless there’s major innovation in one of the following (a black swan) there will be some kind of gradual decline in our way of life.
1)Free engergy such as cold fusion, zero point field energy, teslas ionosphere’s ideas being implemented
2)Modern day alchmey through nanotechnology to literally transform atoms.
3)Some sort of project that uses the ocean wave’s friction to harvest hydro energy while also being able to convert that ocean water into a fresh water supply and redirect the oceans of the world to flood the barren wastelands.
4)Something awesome that I haven’t even thought of.

Unless there are innovations, we willl have to see
1)hyperinflation causing rapid price increases and business destruction in certain areas
2)deflation of credit making it less easy to purchase
3)localized price increases in the scarce resources and things related to the scarce resources

The global way of life is a function of the availability of the resources, and the effeciency of their distribution and usage.

depopulationists that believe to prolong our way of life we need depopulation are fooling themselves. That’s a selfish short term outlook. If there’s enough to provide 6 billion people to live to 100 for 10 generations, it’s really no different than 6 people living to 100 for 10billion generations. The difference is, 6 people will lack the ability to cooperate and produce as much as they will lack the possibility for synergy. 1+1=3 when you use resources to have a compounding effect. Innovation is what’s needed, and population is the solution to that problem, not lack of population.

    Life always survives to flourish.
In my mind there is no real tipping point for disaster.
We just have to improve consumption, distribution, and waste…and of course innovate new ideas to perfection as derrr mentions.

      No tipping point for disaster?

      ==============
” But also be concerned that you do not have to suffer the misery of hunger (famine) if you breed a superfluity
of descendants, therefore you shall not multiply like vermin; if you do however breed too many descendants
then you are evidently acting in a mistaken way because by doing so you invoke a calamity in great measure
on yourselves, for your wellbeing (health) as well as for your world; and truly it is through your excessive descendants that you bring about great and worldwide battles (wars) and destruction, as well as hardship, misery,
calamity and cataclysms in the extent of huge collapses (catastrophes) which you cannot set anything against,
      so you are helpless.

And beware of breeding too many of people of your kind (human beings) so that the breadth of the earth
does not become too narrow for you and there is no longer any refuge for you on it; therefore do not turn in
pity to those who wish to create descendants if there are too many of all the people of your kind (humankind),
otherwise a cataclysm (catastrophe) is unavoidable when the appearance (nature) turns against you and you
can no longer do anything about it; truly, the number of all people of your kind (humankind) is restricted for
your world, but as you exceed the number then calamities of all kinds sweep over you, which you can no longer
      control.

All who are fruitful in (bear) cleverness (rationality) and insight (intellect), consider that you shall show esteem
and honour (respect) to the appearance (nature) of your world and shall keep it in health and benevolence so
that your world does not suffer its downfall (is not destroyed) through you.

It is not seemly for you as inhabitants of Earth that you commit misdemeanours against it and destroy it in itself
and in its appearance (nature) through your might and unsageness (irrationality); but if you do this, then you
make yourselves into enemies of your world, which is your home, from which will spring misery, hardship and
affliction for you, which must be ascribed to you as a disparaging (despicable) work; and truly your reward for
this is terrible cataclysms (catastrophes) with enormous destruction and wholesale (mass) deaths of people of
      your kind (human beings).

And if you subject your world to an ordeal (torture), then you cannot give any amount (sum/money), whether
great or small, to ward off the resulting calamity, because all the cataclysms (catastrophes) will be so great that
you will no longer be able to resolve them, therefore the blame for it must be laid at your door, for which you
will receive your reward of terrible things heaped upon terrible things and calamity upon calamity

“What? How much does he think population has changed in the last three years to warrent the boom in commodity prices.”

Not everyone believes in the efficient market hypothesis. It’s entirely possible that the effects of the last 20 years of population are only now starting to have an effect on commodities, as people never really appreciate what they have until it’s gone or very scarce…
And the growing middle class in other areas of the world are also occuring.
