Accurate. Calling someone a fucknut doesn’t invalidate the accusation. Having read the Tesla threads, Cain’s spot on. They’re the domain of the ignorati, folks who believe that 20 vehicles will be able to park at the same solar powered “supercharger” and go happily on their ways within an hour. Tell them of the impossibilities of their prognostications and they point to smart phones as evidence of how fast battery techonology will develop over … wait for it … the next three years. Dullards.
You could get faster refilling with battery swapping, but it’s hyper-capital intensive, and one of the strongest points would be then ownership of the batteries falls on whatever corporation owns the swapping station.
If they aren’t all owned by one entity, the legal structure and liability exposure goes haywire. What kind of insurance would someone be willing to offer a battery swap station when you don’t know which batteries they have traded for?
Since you can’t necessarily get around that liability issue, that means Tesla is on its own in building these networks. Maybe they can start some sort of franchise system, but good lord that’s a lot of money to startup.
I don’t hate Tesla (even though I think some of their reporting/strategies have been hype bullshit). But this is all going to take way longer than anyone is predicting.
