If you really don’t want to get fooled again read critically – opinions from both sides- and pull the facts out of the stories. Try not to be persuaded by the opinion or inherent bias of the piece. Think critically and exercise common sense. Then establish your view once you have come to an understanding that makes sense. When everybody is thinking the same thing then there isn’t much thinking going on.

Regime change actually can’t be brought about through political means, or by force either. It’s not our country, not our decision to make, either way.
We could superficially do regime change by force, by taking out Assad. But then the next guy who swooped into the power vacuum left behind by Assad might be worse. He might be the head of ISIS, for all we know. So that would not be a regime change from a brutal regime to a less brutal one.

Those who want to blame other countries or ethnic groups for American actions they don’t like are simply unwilling to accept America is an empire with colonial interests and acts on those interests, whether you like those interests or the means to achieving them or not. At the end of the day, it’s just another form of cognitive dissonance.
Those in charge do BELIEVE that they are acting in the best interests of America as something like an Empire. But it’s different from empires in the past in that we don’t really get that much out of those countries we invade. We just make ourselves–
and them– worse off. It’s a Lose/Lose situation.
If America didn’t try to do regime change in countries we know nothing about, and focused ourselves more on domestic progress than on making the MIC rich, America would be tons better off.
It’s the MIC corporations that benefit here, not the nation on the whole.
Ultimately, how do politicians retain their jobs? Economic prosperity or at least the lack of economic catastrophe. The MIC as you call it is a big piece of today’s economy and some of the only growth govt can self-engineer. To develop the MIC also keeps America on top of competing militaries and nations. So it’s simple logic why politicians are war hawks no? That’s without even getting into the lobbying and campaign funding and all the rest. Obviously MIC has big hand in that too.
I don’t agree with the neocons, they completely misunderstand the middle east and have misdiagnosed Islam, (and I agree with you that energy should be focused on fixing domestic problems) but I don’t need to reach for illogical conspiracy theories about why they do what they do. This is an empire competing with other real and wannabe empires at the global level.
yes there isa tension between being a Republic- especially one founded as America was on anti-imperialism- and becoming an Empire in the last 100 years. With Empire comes great expectations and responsibilities.
The problem with racial or political jokes is that they are usually only funny to people on one side of the issue. Sac’s jokes are only funny to anti-semitics. Eric’s joke is funny only to loyal Hillary hating Right Wing Republican propaganda believers.

Well, at least you didn’t stop being anti-war, when the Right Wing media outlets stopped being anti-war, in order to continue to agree with Trump. It seems like almost every media outlet and Congress person is pro-war now, suddenly. Ugh!
BTW, Mad Scientist, BLM has never targeted white people with violence. There has been some violence at some of the times and places of some of their protests, but they were not done by BLM members, nor were the crimes encouraged or desired by them. It’s not fair to blame them for crimes done by people who are not part of their group.
This isn’t like ISIS or someone who commits violence themselves and proudly takes credit for it.
A protest group should not be held responsible for all actions of everyone in their city, at the time they are having their protest. Are you responsible for every crime that happens in your city or town, because you live there and walk the streets there?
