This is grim news, since it leaves months of rhetoric in the balance. There is nothing the market likes less than uncertainty. Britain’s Prime Minister has set a date for the people to vote on whether to stay in the EU or not.
Leaving Europe would threaten our economic and our national security,” Cameron said outside his official Downing Street residence in London Saturday. “The choice is in your hands, but my recommendation is clear. I believe that Britain will be safer, stronger, and better off in a reformed European Union.”
Vocal critics, like Nigel Farage, are delighted and will use this opportunity to deride mainland Europe best they can to sway public opinion.
It’s worth noting the fact that markets will likely be dreadful by June 23rd, providing investors with just one more reason to sell in May.

And I’ll vote to leave!
Brexit has nothing on the Rapeugees. The EU is finished either way. Summer life boat tourism will break records. So will the death toll washing up on the shores.
Fly, or anyone who understands this, what would the market be uncertain about, if Britain left vs. if it stayed in the EU? Is the EU expected to crash economically or something, if Britain isn’t in it? What would change for the worse, in world markets or economies, if Brexit happened?
Regarding refugees, some people who are alarmed at the fact that one fifth of the Syrian population has become refugees, thanks to Assad, are quite fond of Putin. This is contradictory, as Putin is fighting on Assad’s side, while Assad keeps creating more and more refugees by butchering his own people.
The Kurds are fighting on Assad’s side too, from what I am reading. Not that the Syrian rebels are pure angels either. ISIS apparently is an ally of theirs, and perhaps plans to take control if Assad is pushed out, rather than allowing Syrians some more democratic form of government. There is more to these conflicts than is immediately apparent. And a zillion reasons for the U.S. to stay out of them. You can’t help the “good guys” if the societies are composed only of weak groups and of strong but brutal groups who chop off heads or use chemical weapons against their people.
Great point but sometimes it’s just to late to turn back. ie. We leave Iraq after we made a mess with no one to clean it up. Extreme vacuum.Libya, ect
Sorry forgot frog+1
I see what your saying, but the whole date thing screams uncertainty.
“…buy the sky and sell the sky…”
