I guess the Bernank must have been more serious than any of us realized, when he said that inflation was a “temporary” problem. And Obama was serious when he told us that “It’s as if the economy has been hit by a truck” a couple of weeks or so ago. It does seem that almost all of this has to do with European nations, and maybe with other countries that have not as yet revealed their problems– not directly with the U.S. Because people are fighting each other tooth and nail to buy our downgraded debt, in a flight to quality. European bankruptcy is one thing they are fleeing from. There could be other things too, e.g. bubbles bursting but so far covered up, from other countries.
