Yesterday now sanctioned Russian billionaire Abramovich flew to deliver a hand written note from Zelensky, which detailed his terms to end the conflict.
Putin’s response was “tell him I will thrash him.”
Today, during the alleged peace talks and subsequent minor cessation of hostilities, Zelensky issued the following statements:
Zelensky: no talk of lifting Russia sanctions until war ends
UKRAINE’S PRESIDENT ZELENSKY: THE RUSSIAN ARMY STILL HAS SIGNIFICANT ATTACK CAPACITY, THEREFORE WE ARE NOT LOWERING OUR DEFENSIVE OPERATIONS.
Zelensky has urged Western nations to toughen sanctions quickly against Russia, including an oil embargo, to stop Moscow having a free hand to escalate its measures against his country.
Zelensky: ‘Ukrainians are not naive,’ we see risks in peace talks.
“Of course, we see all the risks. Of course, we don’t have a reason to trust the words of representatives of a country that wages war against us.”
UKRAINE’S ZELENSKIY SAYS SIGNALS FROM TALKS WITH RUSSIA COULD BE CALLED POSITIVE, BUT THESE SIGNALS DON’T DROWN OUT EXPLOSIONS OF RUSSIAN SHELLS
Trump’s take:
TRUMP CALLS ON PUTIN TO RELEASE INFO ON HUNTER BIDEN’S DEALINGS WITH OLIGARCHS
And then there’s statements out of the US and UK, basically trolling Putin in an attempt to mock and deride him. If we’re really trying to stop the killing, this isn’t the best approach.
UK Ministry of Defence intelligence says Russian statements regarding reduction in activity around Kyiv may indicate Moscow’s acceptance that it has ‘now lost the initiative in the region’.
Bottom line: Do not fall for peace. I suspect by the end of the week, we will be back to business as usual between Russia and Ukraine.

The west wants war so there’s no scenario in which peace will be achieved.
Zelensky is not negotiating in good faith. It’s a PR game for him. In fact, he’s the wrong one to negotiate with. He has no power to negotiate anything without US / NATO consent. 1st rule of negotiation; always negotiate with the top person. Putin knows it’s a sham. Jim said the sanctions are permanent.
Time is on Putin’s side. The longer it drags out the more shortages will bite in the west. Russians are used to a hard life. Snowflakes, not so much. Everyone is talking tough before 4//1/22 when the rubber meets the road. 1, 2, 3 months from now Snowflake pain will be intense. April Fools Day will be the tell.
@LorenBoston
Putin will probably ask countries who oppose Russia to pay for their gas immediately – like every single day in a RUB SWIFT payment. That would likely drain RUB reserves of payer countries pretty quickly.
This Yur coment is awaitin modertion. is annoying.
Shortages are the objective.
Also, do you have somewhere else to be? I don’t understand the “awaiting moderation” either but if you’re in a hurry, you don’t have to stick around and wait. The moderator will get to it in due time.
I’m guessing it’s a feature Fly opted for in order to prevent spamming the board.

India imported $3.3 billion in goods to Russia in 2021, and the finance ministry has no plans to place sanctions on Russia. The Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) announced that India will now switch to a SWIFT alternative that permits rupee-ruble payments
India, the largest oil importer in the world, was purchasing around 2% to 5% of their crude from Russia in recent years, but with the prospect of a heavy discount, they are likely to turn to Russia instead of the Middle East.
yeah, the oil is not off the market globally. It will all find a home. The gas is connected from field to customer however, at least for a while.
some urgent window dressing before midterms is playing in the background now too. Inflation and the price at the pump will be the focus probably. November supercedes peace and humanity.
Ukrainians should send the Russians a mouse, a frog, a bird, and five arrows like their ancestors sent the Persians.
