China – Wife: “I wanna see the Great Wall and the Xian Warriors” Me: “Watch the Discovery Channel” So we go and it’s a disgusting shithole. After drinking some shitty snake wine at the hotel bar ended up in a hospital in Beijing and was appalled by the conditions. I stumbled out without being treated, luckily.
Egypt – Wife: Wouldn’t it be nice to see the Great Pyramid of Giza and the Xian Warriors?” Me: “You can see both on the fucking Discovery Channel.” So we go and it’s worse than China. Not one redeeming quality about this backward ass country. Everyone is a cheat, from the taxi driver to the waitress to the idiots that give camel rides to children.
Japan – Wife: “Tokyo is on my bucket list” Me: “Why don’t you fill that bucket with Mr. Clean and do the kitchen floor.” So we go. It’s a nice country. Safe and clean. Mt. Fuji is spectacular. Polite people now, but they certainly were assholes in 1940’s.
Canada – It’s a hop, skip and a jump. But boring. And too many ungrateful French people.
Ireland – Wife: “All my relatives are from Ireland and some still live there, let’s go!” Me: “At least I can golf at a top notch course.” There’s a reason James Joyce got the fuck out.
The food sucks and it’s always cloudy. Was there two weeks and never saw the sun. Fuck that.
I could go on, there’s a few more, but suffice to say I’d rather spend my vacation time in North Dakota or Georgia than go abroad.
