Labels will matter way less once the new demos allow the GOP to be less dependent on old whites. What I want to see is for that process to accelerate. That will be for the benefit of this country in the long run.
The last period when labels carried as much weight was during the Jim Crow era in the segregated South, when every white voter/supremacist was a Democrat. The older family members of mine (i.e., my grandparents’ generation) were all registered Republicans till the 60s. They elected the first Republican office holders in Atlanta in 1948.

When I was little (circa late 80s and early 90s), my state and your current state would elect mostly moderate Democrats. Then some douche named Newt (Gingrich) from decided to go further than Reagan on the dog-whistle race-baiting and he was the only Republican Congressman from GA for most of the 1980s till 1994. Then the “Gingrich Revolution” happened and fewer and fewer moderates survived in both parties in the subsequent elections.
The political landscape will change again. Just not anytime soon.

As a result, most of the models projections have been on the death count, while ignoring postive test counts compeltely. However, the lack of testing has also had a big influence on these numbers as well. Witness New York.
With testing at a premium, not everybody that dies actually gets tested (and yes, their have been docuemtned cases of relatives demanding tests and gettign pushback, and also of cases of post-mortem tests that have proven COVID-19 without a prior diagnosis). A week ago there was evidence of this massive undercount, as the number of NY that died in their homes (of unknown causes) sky rocketed. Take a look at the chart.

Based on reporting, New York *City* started counting deaths as Covid-19 if the coronor and/or doctors made that determiantion on the death certificate. However, NY *state* was NOT reporting these numbers. The issue is glaringly obvious, especailyl before it spread outside the city:

New York State COVID-19 deaths: 1550
So New York and Gov Cuomo are ***under-reporting COVID-19 deaths***. Now they are doing both, so the confiremd detash are 11586, but the actual deaths reported are 14,030, putting the US well above 30,000.
That 752 is *confirmed* deaths, so actual NY COVID-19 deaths are even higher.
