Pro-tip for anyone in the market for a car: never buy the fucker — just lease it and dump it back onto their faces after the term is up.
I made the horrible mistake of buying my car, a GL 450, and have been harangued by it since day 1. Things really started to get dicey after the warrantee expired — which is both funny and incidental.
Upon reaching NC, I brought the car over to the local shoppe and fixed it for $10k. No big deal. I had a cam-shaft issue that needed some fixing — an onerous job but someone had to do it. There was also an issue with the car kicking back on me while decelerating, so I brought it in for a look. They said it was a software issue and would only cost me $155. I gladly paid them their coin and drove the car back home with even more kick-backs then before. The God damned car kicks me in the face like a horse would — upon hitting the brakes or climbing up hill. It is literally one of the worst cars I’ve ever driven, especially under said conditions.
So I brought it back to the dealership for a glance over and they didn’t know what was causing it, so they sought out the expertise of some German engineers. Lo and behold, the transmission is fucked and they’d like to charge me $2,600 for their troubles. Instead of doing that, I simply said “fuck off” and “I would prefer to drive the car into a ravine, then fork over another $2,600 into this pile of shit.”
What this means for me is two fold.
1. My stocks are going to scream higher. Personal issues, whether with the home or car, typically precede dramatic lifts in my stocks.
2. LIFETIME BAN on any Mercedes Benz vehicles at House Fly. I own two cars, both Benzes, and I will be tossing them into the fires very soon.

Mercedes has a couple of models where they are super robust, but only for an odd year range⦠Like the ML is really reliable between 2011-2014, the E500 from 02-05. Seems like you got the shit end of the pickle.
RIP IN PEACE
50% decrease in drug prices! Re-importation re-allowed! Thanks Mr. President!
Drugs cos and IBB must be getting crushed today.
Years back traded my Piece Of Shit Benz in and got a Lexus LX
The Lexus is an un-destructible luxurious tank , as long as you don’t care too much about gas mileage
Tough thing with that is the premium pricing but basic appointments and design philosophy from about 10 years ago. My wife test drive the new Benz and despite some of its problems, they have nailed making it attractive and giving it cool features like a massive touchscreen, gesture controls, etc.
probably a good call but one can also get double screwed if in 6 months one learns they did a recall on it after ditching it. happens regularly.
Sounds like an abusive relationship
Toyota Landcruiser is built to last a minimum 25 years.
Domestics are built to last 100,000 miles.
BMW, VW, Porche, Mercedes are built to last three years, or a lease agreement.
My default assumption is anyone who trades and doesn’t own a Lexus is a shitty trader. People who drive a German car, unless they make greater than mid seven figures, are poor decision makers. People who lease have rocks in their heads. It is fine to drive a used American car. You might be successful. You probably aren’t. You can drive a drive an inferior luxury car like an Infiniti but it likely means you are pinching pennies a little too much and probably haven’t reached a level of success to where you should own a luxury car.. So all you are left with are Lexus and Genesis as possible choices for a good trader. The problem is no one knows what a Genesis is. Part of the reason you drive a nice car is to let people know how better you are than them. So the only real decision for a real trader to drive is Lexus, but not the low end crossover version. Those are piles of shit. Really a Lexus sedan or an SUV are the only choices for a good trader.
I think you closed every loop that never existed before now. Thanks
Only a complete fucking asswipe looks down at someone that has a less expensive car.
How do you like your Dodge Stratus, then?
Great timing. My wife’s GL 450 just had its warranty expire and is having an issue whereby a fan comes on for no reason when the vehicle is off (often when it has been for several hours), draining the battery. It has resulted in numerous unpleasant instances of having the battery completely dead. Mercedes gave the vehicle a clean bill of health when it was under warranty, but it’s still doing it. She even had to go to Wal-Mart to buy some kind of device that will jump-start the damned thing. Rolling into Wal-Mart to buy a device to start your $85,000 SUV that randomly drains its battery is one of those things you can’t really make up.
What kind of vehicles are you looking at, Sir Fly? My wife loves the new GLS in terms of styling, the big-ass screen, etc. I don’t love the idea of buying it (leases are problematic in my state) and having it depreciate by 65% after 4 or 5 years when the fucker is off warranty.
I feel your pain. The floor boards on my 1996 F-150 rusted through, causing it to fail inspection. It too is out of warranty.
You can flintstone mobile that fucker to the grocery
Fly. Quit buying used cars.
Maybe get your husband to teach you how to drive a fine German automobile.
