I’m taking a small respite now, post supper, to communicate the importance of toil to my readers. Now that I’m selling my fucking house, readers are being falsely led to believe this toil I speak of has only now begun to occur.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
For over 20 years I’ve been hard at work, toiling during the day, well into the late hours at night. Often times I’d go on late night drives to the grocery store and buy $400 worth of food at 2am. Or, I’d scrub every square foot of my floors and WASH THE WALLS and trim work until everything shined like new. We are in a constant state of toil at House Fly and we never rest.
Crumbs on the floor?
Get the fuck up now and clean it up.
Stainless steel appliances defaced with a smudge?
Get out of the spray and fix it now!
Just today I fixed a piece of furniture, washed one of my couches, and scrubbed my floors with bleach powder. After scrubbing it, I washed the floors 6 times to make sure all crumbs and dirt were eradicated.
How do I get the grime from the grout?
Easy — oxygen bleach powder.
Ahead of me are 4 bathrooms and tomorrow morning I will need to scrub down the stoneware in the yard, picnic table, and a sundry of small items.
I’m pushing very hard to either sell or junk every fucking item in this house now, appealing to Mrs. Fly’s superstitious mentality with ideas of “this stuff is cursed!” Thus far, I’ve been unsuccessful. I do not want personal belongings anymore and would be very happy sleeping on nothing more than a mattress on the floor — and a hard wooden chair and a small desk to trade and blog from.
Until that dream is accomplished, I toil.

I’m in the same boat. It’s called ocd. And a disappointment of every fucking person on this earth. I swear I’m must have gone through 75 cleaning services.
Oh dear. The help can be such a bother.
Jesus Fucking Chrst, Fly! Fuck me while washing a window..
Groceries …fine. But four bathrooms and a house full of useless shit? Donate it all to Salvation Army. Downsize. You’re a bright guy, stop polluting the planet with your ego-stroking consumption and free yourself of people who give a damn about such
nonsense.
May I suggest a power washer for the stoneware in the yard?
Haha, yeah buy some more tools to fill your garage with. It never ends.
Someone needs a ginormous bong hit and forget about that shit. You know why? It never ends!!!
Get a cleaning lady to come in once a week. Throw away or donate just about everything that you haven’t used in the last 2 months…
Life is too short to spend breathing cleaning chemicals.
You must be trying to sell this house at a helluva high price for you to have to doctor it up this much. Lower the price and sell it to the suckers as is. That way you can relax and take it easy. #justsayin
This is what Italians do. Unfortunately, the desire to have a sparklingly clean house, one to be proud of, seems to lose its importance with the next generation. Especially when they come from college and treat the home like a dorm.
I agree about staying away from cleaning chemicals, hiring people to clean instead, and wondering about decision to clean to the Nth degree. It’s a real estate bull market. Don’t do anything a buyer would not do.
Possessions- if you bought great, timeless stuff you’d probably have less of it and want to keep it.
Life is too short, indeed. Stay away from dangerous things and cherish good things.

Here’s hoping Mrs. Fly has the same regard for toil… 🙂
For Whom the Bull Toils. He toils for she.
