Barclay’s: The Safe Haven Yen to Strengthen

Is this even relevant? As I watched this, I thought to myself  ‘gee, this guy is somewhat dimwitted and lacks energy’ (extra Trump). He’s not telling me anything worthwhile, but maybe it will help some clown out there who thinks the fucking world is a giant rainbow with unicorns committing acts of fellatio on it.

Japan’s NIRP is strengthening the yen because it encourages people to hoard yen (cash) as a safe haven rather than be subject to negative interest rates. Add a deflationary environment to the mix and you can expect to see the yen strengthen even more. News flash: NIRP will not produce what the BOJ is trying for.

      You sound confident. Precariously. Possibly.

Partly. I’m inclined to think the bigger issue is what NIRP does to insurance and various yen-linked derivative “investments”. One thing is certain: the market is ignoring the yen. Canary in the coal mine.

Meanwhile, Japanese “Household Confudence” numbers this morning blow away consensus. Unicorns and rainbows.
