I’ve actually never met a trump supporter outside of the Internet. Seems like most people wouldn’t admit it outside of a large group of other reality TV fans. You get a bunch of trump supporters together and they’d certainly feed of each other. Fueled by cans of skoal, Mountain Dew, and testosterone replacement medicine….. That’s a rowdy group.

Bernie on the other hand certainly attracts the angry children, for sure. I’ve got some Bernie supporter friends, and they’re very uninformed on the issues. It’s a shame it’s come to this. I think this election is bringing out the anger in both sides.

One distinct difference between the Trump and Bernie supporters is the Trump people have guns. The Bernie folks have skateboards.

If Trump gets elected, a lot of these vagabond Bernie supports will riot. The liberals are actively suppressing freedom. Conservatives are the new counter-culture.

It’s not liberalism, it’s ALL -isms. I’m sure I’m speaking to the choir when I mention that colleges are on an increasing trend to suppress free speech – when that speech is conservative in nature.

However, it is conservative politicians that want to ban Muslims (even though moderate Muslims are the best defnse against radicals ones), ban certain bedroom activities, ban abortion, and supress voter registrions.

In fact both the extremes on both ends have it confused: religious conservatives think that not being allowed to force their religiosu beliefs on others is suppressing their freedom of religion while left-wing nut jobs think that talking about a Trump presidency is hate speech..

Depends on what kind of freedom. I would say yes, in a lot of ways that would be correct. Republicans shoot themselves in the foot, especially on social issues. You get the religion out of politics, and there would be 0 question.

Everyone has a religion. It’s just worldview that explains life as best as possible based on all the facts. People don’t really operate without it. If you think you don’t have religion, you’re probably a neo-darwin materialist and the tend to be very socially liberal. We are, after all, just accidental bags of meat headed for extinction under that one.

People who don’t have formal religion are quite varied in their belief systems. There is more to the world than religious people imagine. Which is understandable, because for many religions, doubt is some kind of sin. So that “sin” effectively works to keep those religious people from stepping outside the narrow bounds of their particular religion. Nonreligious people don’t all believe that “we are just accidental bags of meat headed for extinction.”

BTW, there is a Christian Left, which is socially liberal, and many are also fiscally liberal. They are much quieter than the Christian Right, and not many of them live in Texas. But they are around, and in large numbers.

Although most Christians don’t open up their Bible very often, if you do, you may notice that Jesus was socially liberal.

The Right Wing Jesus is a product of corporate propaganda.

Ironic how the word liberal from Latin means free (man) … just like the region of Lombardia Italy comes from the Germanic people Longbeards (Latinised as Lang?bárd?, Italianised as Longobardi) 😉

I just watched the video and people are so ignorant. It took me 15 years to become a resident of this country by following the law and doing it “the right way” going through college paying out of state tuition and not allowed to work, and the rest working with company sponsored H1B visa… which if you don’t know, it’s temporary… waiting for a pending GC response. So for 15 years of my life I didn’t know if I could continue to remain in the US and build my life here … in other words I was living a “temporary life” not knowing if I could plan on a future here. So it is sickening for me to hear that they would make illegal immigrants legal at a snap of a finger.

      vale, I understand your PoV.

At the same time, picture someone from Mexico, Honduras, etc. who just wants to provide for their family. They can’t find a job locally (perhaps they were a corn farmer undercut by NAFTA and US farm subsidies?) so they sneak into the US, work sh!t jobs, just so their kids can eat. Do you think they are doing the wrong thing? I’d take them over someone born in the US and just living off the governement at tax payer expense.

Also, illegal vs legal misses the point somewhat, when their are plenty of foreign workers that are here legally only as a source of below-minimum-wage labor for the wealthy and their corporations: au-pairs, Q-Visa “cultural representatives”, farm workers, some H1-Bs, etc

Fly, the reason the US is so great is because it has drawn hard-working risk- takers. That describes many of the illegal immigrants. I’m not talking about “anchor babies”, I’m talking about the below-minimum wage workers. The downside is that they are dropping the wages for US workers, but then again, so are LEGAL foreign workers. The upside is that they keep prices down.

It’s the same deal as Made in China vs Made in USA. On a net basis, I think we are better off with home-grown labor and fewer imports. That’s the best way to solve the inequality problem. However, there’s also the question of feasability (roundign up illegal immigrants) and infaltion shock if we just flipped the switch immediately.

Thank you vale. I tried to make that point to frog a while back. He apparently sees no reason why not enforcing immigration laws is disrespectful to people such as yourself, and why it gives illegal immigrants a tremendous advantage.

“But by far the biggest and most often-studied difference between the conservative and liberal brain is their response to stimuli invoking fear and disgust. Conservatives tend to react much more viscerally to negative stimuli than do liberals, and they are likelier to interpret new information as having a negative or dangerous effect on their lives.” -Virginia Tech study.

I am liberal and I used to think that most right-wingers are fucking idiots, but apparently their brains are just wired up funny.

Anyways I think that the term “conservative” is a misnomer when applied to a right wing Republican. Assault rifles, abortion, “Christian” values, hatred of government are not traditional conservative tenets but the far right has appropriated the term “Conservative” for its own use.

My liberal friends are more conservative in the old fashioned sense than any right winger I know.

I don’t mesh well with the holy rollers. The academia liberals are very intelligent, well meaning, but often naive people. Generally, I like them.

But I loathe the skateboard hipster liberals who are dumber than a box of nails, which seems to be who we see protesting over and over these days.

I view the election as a football game. Each side going for their team come what may. I try not to get too emotional about games. I prefer to be outside the stadium having a burger and a beer at a tailgate. That said, Clinton is awful. I’d be delighted to see her lose to either bad hair day. If she wins, I’ll enjoy watching her be terrible at her dream job.

The thing about immigration is that no one in Congress has ever wanted to do anything whatsoever about it. It’s one of those issues that Republicans use to rile up their base and get votes. It’s like the budget deficit. Rile up the base and get votes, and then do absolutely nothing about the issue.

Everyone in the GOP loves to spend jillions of dollars. But in addition to that, the GOP Congress members like to complain about the budget deficit– but only when a Dem president is in office.

And everyone in Congress is beholden to huge corporations– corporations that want to have illegal immigrants come in so they can pay them substandard wages, have substandard working conditions, and have them live in substandard housing. And the workers can’t complain to the authorities about it because they are here illegally. These corporations are the corporate donors of the GOP, and to a lesser extent, of the Democrats.

Both Houses of Congress are GOP dominated. If they wanted to do something about illegal immigration, they would have already. They simply don’t want to. Why fix a problem when railing about it on TV gets you votes? If you fix it, you have nothing to rail about and blame the Democrats for, to get votes. And if you fix it, your corporate donors abandon you and the gravy train stops.

Marco Rubio tried to propose an immigration law. The rest of the GOP Congress members tarred and feathered him for trying. And they did not come up with an alternative law.

I can’t blame anyone for being concerned about immigration problems. Bernie is also. It’s not just Trump who does not believe in open borders.

But to believe that the politicians who have been in office so far, have had any concern whatsoever about immigration, beyond railing about it on TV to get votes, is fantasy.
