This is an epic film of the first magnitude, for numerous reasons.
For one, it’s one of the few films in cinema history that didn’t cast a speaking role for a woman. This movie travailed for almost 4 hours and the director and producers went out of their way to give zero fucks about diversity, casting zero women in the process. Pretty cool.
Peter O’toole played the world war 1 British soldier T.E. Lawrence in a plight to lead an Arab revolt against the fucking Turks. Unfortunately, it appears Mr. Lawrence might’ve been raped by some Turks in the process, in a very controversial scene.
If you’re impatient and enjoy the stupidity of Michael Bay movies, you will not enjoy this film. It represents quality of the very first class.
Here is my favorite scene, bestowed upon the gawking class by none other than the legendary Anthony Quinn.

I had the good fortune to see it properly — in a theater, with an intermission — about 3 decades ago. It was a terrific experience.
I don’t remember many details except Peter O’Toole, lots and lots of sand, and “No prisoners!”
Speaking of seeing it properly… On this laptop the above video is squeezed from the original format. I wonder if a horizontally held smartphone would display an aspect ratio comparable to the original theatrical presentation?
How much crappy quality will an audience accept, in exchange for convenience or no cost? It’s a question for those in the content business.
High-end quality still exists in areas of life, although at a cost out of reach for the middle class.
A beautiful film. The British Empire is always an interesting topic.
“I am a river to my people.” Men aspiring to be great should heed these words.
The Seven Pillars of Wisdom is worth reading. Even though critics think Lawrence was a bit loose with the facts the end of the book provides an interesting view of England and France splitting up the spoils with little regard for the overall good of the people involved.
