John Boehner Wants GOP to Appoint Paul Ryan as Nominee in Contested Convention

The establishment does not want D. Trump to be President for a wide variety of reasons, mostly because he’s not beholden to anyone. It’s like a crooked cop taking money from the mob getting mad at the clean cops who want to put them away.

In a novel twist to dismiss the Trump surge, former speaker of the house and permanently tanned, John Boehner, said he will support current speaker, Paul Ryan, as the nominee if the current roster of nominees are unable to secure the required delegates needed to ‘lock in’ the nomination.

In other words, he’s suggesting that if Trump got 1,100 delegates to Cruz’s 500, they’re both losers and don’t deserve to run.

“If we get to the convention and we don’t have a nominee that can win on the first ballot, I’m for none of the above,” he said. “They all had a chance to win. None of them won. So I’m for none of the above. I’m for Paul Ryan to be our nominee.”

This is a very clever establishment tactic.

Bohner regularly refers to T. Cruz as ‘lucifer’ and calls him a ‘jackass’ for being unwilling to work with the other checkered panted hacks.

As for Boehner’s lack of desire to run for the Presidency himself, he offered nothing but wanton depravity as his excuse.

“Being president is like voluntarily climbing into a jail cell and then letting people throw stones at you through the bars,” he said. “I smoke cigarettes, I drink red wine, I play golf, I cut my own grass, I wash and iron my own shirts, and I sure as hell am not giving that up to be president of the United States.”

Trump’s take on a brokered convention:

“If you disenfranchise those people, and you say, ‘I’m sorry, you’re 100 votes short’ … I think you’d have problems like you’ve never seen before. I think bad things would happen.”

I was perusing the list of Trilateral Commission members looking for a Convention nominee that might appease both oligarchs and plebs. How about Condoleezza Rice? She could be even more powerful president than Obama, in that anyone who criticizes her could be labeled both a racist AND a misogynist, and the Republican party could de-ball Hillary by running a black woman against her.

HIllary would still win. Only the GOP overwhelmingly votes identity politics. Democrats and independents, not so much. Few if any independents or Dems found Palin to be acceptable for VP just because she was female, regardless of whether they themselves were female. Some people may have voted for Obama because he was black, but not enough to push him over the line to winning the election.

Granted, Rice is 100 times more qualified than Palin was for public office by experience, intelligence etc. But Democrats and independents, on the whole, vote more for policies than for race, gender etc. And no one has been voting for standard Republican establishment polcies this year. Trump’s popularity is mostly due to his being different from that.

Frog – Obama didn’t bring much to the table when he ran, other than his blackness and strong b.s. game

I see him differently. He had experience in government, although less than some other people. He had experience as an attorney and a law professor. And if you thought of the U.S. as a gigantic community that needed to be organized by a community organizer, he was your guy.

As far as intelligence, education, and skills go, he is a graduate of Columbia University and of Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review. He graduated with his JD degree magna cum laude from Harvard. Not an easy thing to do. He worked as a civil rights attorney and taught constitutional law at University of Chicago Law School between 1992 and 2004. He served three terms representing the 13th District in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004.

And people liked the policies he was in favor of.

they had a chance and didn’t win….but by that logic paul ryan had a chance and did zero. so where’s the logical sense in that?

this election just proves that the american people don’t matter. brokered convention on the republican side, and corrupt super delegates on the democrat side.

The super delegate system may not be fair, but Hillary would win with or without it. I prefer Bernie, but from the primary results, it looks like he is not nearly as popular as Hillary.

If you remove the superdelegates Hillary would lead, but if you swapped superdelegates, Bernie would lead. The worst part of the superdelegates imo is that the total is known beforehand, potentially influencing voters. There was a point where Hillary and Bernie would have been virtually tied but the superdelegates gave her like a 9 to 1 lead. Those press reports certainly can influence voters and voter turnout.

I’d personally like all delegate counts to be withheld from public until the end, but that’s not how the system is and it’s known in advanced, so everyone plays by those rules.

It’s supposed to be a constitutional republic, not a democracy. The delegates are people sent to represent the voters that support a particular candidate. Anyone can be a delegate to pledge their support as long as they vote and attend the convention and file paperwork.

Brokered convention essentially allows the delegates to become unbound. Delegates are people sent in to represent certain candidates. Once unbound, they can choose to recast their support and the process repeats until they find majority support.

It’s not discounting the people. It’s giving the people that supported guys like Ben Carson early on for example that now see he can’t win a chance to support whoever they want, including Trump. If enough of the Rubios delegates finally see the futility in supporting him and choose to go to Cruz rather than Trump, it let’s their vote be heard in the second support rather than made irrelevant.
      ———————
With that being said, the last time they had a brokered convention was in the 70s. It certainly would be unconventional to suddenly introduce a candidate that voters didn’t vote for, but the delegates is a representative form of those voters… at least in theory.

Thanks for the explanations of these things. I guess people are concerned that these things may not be working in practice as they were intended to in theory.

I like it. It’s like a Monarch, where God and his subjects depend upon the chosen to rule. I can’t see how this process could be corrupted. I am sure these delegates are fair and just persons.

Odd/ interesting/ dumbfounded/ confused that the most prolific Republican U.S. Rep from Ohio wouldn’t support Kasich. Maybe Kasich isn’t as establishment as one thought.

He’s not popular. Won a grand total of one state in the primaries. They don’t think he can win the election.

He’s far more favored by the moderate left and centrists than the right. Polls show Kasich would fare far better in popular vote of the general election followed by Rubio, Cruz and then Trump. Of course republican support is the exact opposite and Trump has done a very good job convincing people he “leads in all the polls”.

At least Kasich is actually running. A brokered convention would be strange and voters might be angry at having their most popular choice ignored. But if the GOP actually throws someone into the race at the last minute here– someone who wasn’t even running before, that would be even way further over the top.

Hattery, exactly. You got my point spot on. Out of all four of the GOP candidates, he’s got the best shot at winning in a general. He’d attract a ton of Blue Dog Democrats, something Romney couldn’t pull off because of that notorious comment he made.

Even though Hilary won all those states last night, she struggles mightily in the Midwest as Sanders has kept it very close in that region.

I’m someone who truly does vote for the candidate based on their issues, so I consider myself an independent. With that being said, it’s mind boggling that the GOP Establishment can’t get over themselves and zero in on a candidate that would do very well nationally. That’s the largest “operational” differences between Dems and Repubs.

About the only thing I like about Trump is that he is not beholden to the establishment. Look at that hair — it gone beyond vanity, its now a symbol that he just doesn’t give a shit.

The Republican and Democratic establishment want the status quo. Their handlers (corporations and 1%) remain in control. A lot of legislation is actually written by think tanks, lobbyists, and advocacy groups on K Street hired by the corporate elite and 1%. They also provide the bulk of the campaign financing, giving them a great deal of influence over the entire legislative process.

Bingo! Too bad that instead of “Mr Smith Goes to Washington” we got a sleazy, fast talking, bore (and certified member of the 0.1%) and a wild-eyed, socialist dreamer as the folks carrying that banner.

If people prefer someone else to carry that banner, then perhaps at the 2020 presidential election– or in the 2018 Congressional election, that person will appear.

You’ve got to start carrying the banner somewhere and this is where we have started, in 2016. Perhaps we can evolve further politically from here.

But it sure would help if citizens would push to overturn Citizens United and to get public financing of campaigns. Then that would open the way for a far greater variety of people to run.

Also, the media has not been a great gatekeeper. Perhaps some kinds of alternative media on the web can take on the job of giving exposure to interesting qualified candidates who are not bought & paid for.

We all tend to think that others are the way we are. The GOP establishment, and our most trusted news source– Faux News– think in terms of identity politics. But there are plenty of people who do look more at the issues. Otherwise Rubio and Carson would have brought in tons of Hispanic and black votes for themselves. The GOP establishment wanted them to run because they thought they would. But it didn’t happen.

The GOP establishment and the Right Wing news sources that surround us have said over and over again that Obama won 2 terms only because he is black. But looking at his qualifications, education, intelligence, policies etc. that I listed above, I would have voted for him if he had been white. And I’ll bet Fly would have too. Fly noted previously that he voted for Obama, and I don’t think he did so because Obama was black.

There’s a whole world out here outside of the imaginings of Right Wing news sources, with voters thinking of very different things than the GOP Powers That Be. And the GOP establishment is about to discover that.

The propaganda about Obama amazes me. If any GOP pres spoke like Obama speaks, and had his qualifications and education, Fox news would term him a brilliant rational thinker and problem solver, and an inspiring public speaker. But since he’s a Dem, his speaking is just “bs.” Right Wing “news sources” also see him as an arrogant fascist dictator and the Anti-Christ. And weak. How is it that an arrogant fascist dictator is also weak? And still weak, even after he got Osama Bin Laden killed.

If you hear that Hillary is “untrustworthy” and that Obama is “weak” more times than you see the sun come up in the morning, then you will probably start to believe it. It’s just a part of our biology.
