I know, all of you are going to win the Power’d ball tonight, then use the winnings to live out your loafing, self righteous, pathetic lives in sheer gluttony. As for me, I will not be partaking in the homeless man’s weekly gambit. Instead, like any gentleman of distinguishable honor, I will press my rights in the stock’d market.
As we speak, GM upped their earnings forecast. The price of crude is rallying, after whistling past the cemetery. And, SPY futures are comfortably higher.
Once upon a time, I compiled a list of lottery winners and solicited them to invest in stocks. I was young, go getting, and always trying new ideas to get clients. This was the biggest fucking waste of time ever. They were all miserable people, completely devoid of happiness. On more than one occasion, I was told by people who won 20-30 million dollars that the lotto win destroyed their lives. I guess the same could be said about this devil of a stock market.
But let’s stay focused and positive. Everything is lined up for a decent run. Let’s all visit our Voodoo physicians this morning and make blood sacrifices so that we might enjoy some marginal upside in our investments, before resuming the broken elevator cable ride version of this fucked up avocation.

Dr. Fly – if I were to win the powerball, I’d purchase a (larger) house in that Princeton neighborhood of yours, and pay the South American landscapers to mow my lawn at 4:30 am sharp. Even in the winter.
I think it’s getting to where you could spend the $600mil or so to get every number and still be okay if you have split it.
No. If the lotto goes up $800M that probably means 400M $2 tickets were bought. The higher it goes the more tickets are bought due to the mania. The cash out option is worth $800 or $900B. If you split it you end up with let’s be optimistic and say 500M. Now you have taxes both federal and state taxes. Then you have to pay lawyers and accountants. Let’s be optimistic and say you keep 200M. But you paid nearly $600M.
You have the $100,000 winners and such too as well as many $4 winners and such. But good luck sorting through all the tickets and finding every winner and redeeming them all. Not to mention the logistics of getting someone with enough paper to print all 276M tickets or whatever.
If you have 10 numbers per ticket that’s 27,600,000 pieces of paper. If you stack 100 of them an inch thick, that’s 276,000 inches or over 4.35 miles of paper
Interesting story, thanks for sharing. I imagine winning a big lottery would be a relationship destroyer. Everyone you’ve ever known would feel entitled to a cut.
There’s no technical way to buy enough tickets for any of the arbitrage fantasies.
I have been force by less mathematically inclined members of my family into participating in this national delusion, but as sure as shit, buying lottery tickets is for people who like paying extra taxes, whether they know it or not.
