Full disclosure here: that fucking judgement and subsequent drop in TRN’s share price, ironically, had me feeling like a UVXY shareholder late this afternoon. Everything was going peachy, up until the point when the guillotine descended upon my anatomy.
I don’t know what else to say, other than “I hate lawyers.”
I am sure there will be an appeal and this sell off had the stench of panic. Let clearer minds chime in on this one first, then make a judgement. Frankly speaking, seeing my intra-day gain of 2% morph before my eyes into a small loss was more than tragic, it was an abomination.
‘Tis the life of a railman.

Me too.
I hate lawyers.
Lawyers will serve as the rail ties in your journey to glory! ….Trinity Industries provides statement on jury verdict
A jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas returned a verdict against Trinity Industries in a False Claims Act case. The jury awarded $175M in damages. The company respects the jury’s decision. However, Trinity believes the decision cannot and will not withstand legal scrutiny. The company strongly believes the courts will affirm its position.
Cheer up Cap’n. Was this you?:

“Your out of order!!!” Arrrr.
Who changed me Avatar? Arrrr.

Huggie baby! Glad ta see you survived last week 🙂
yar matey, i survived by the nape of me neck, i did.
But much of me gold has been plundered…for the moment.
TRN…..ytd has gotta be -40%
I bought it last week, clown
@seth, are you adding to your UVXY position?
Fly, your year is definitely jinxed!
As predicted, APPL announced their phony “earnings beats” after the close, and their CEO was talking up the stock.
Buy your way-out-of the money PUTS on this piece of shit at the opening tomorrow. I expect to see it DOWN 20% by year-end.
You’re right, I bet they didn’t sell ANY iPhones this quarter. Totally made up phony baloney numbers.
Who want’s a stupid iPhone when there are Very Kool phones? I call bullshit too.
The after market action says blah. No one but the company itself left to buy.
In the old days they would also have to beat the whisper number (no idea what it was) for the stock to rally, otherwise it was bombs away.
It’s a yawner now.
Who cares about the whisper beat… they raised guidance. Apple always sandbags… — I think it’s going higher. Throw in some financial engineering and it hits 120.
Don’t fight it – just go with the flow.
Grandmas hat box is back. Her talking dildos are frothing at the bit with jewels like “if you have a 100 year horizon stocks are always a buy!”. The fix better be all in. Without a doubt the street is.
Don’t mess with Carl — he turned my loss into a massive gain. All hail grandpas.
What’s even more obnoxious about this decision is that it has to do with highway guardrails, not their rail business.
The US legal system is corrupt. It is now seen as a lottery system that you play to try to hit the jackpot.
.
… if a loved one of yours was seriously injured or killed (God forbid) by the negligence of someone else …
… I’m guessing that you would be calling an attorney and thankful you have access to the “US legal system” !!!
.
It wasn’t their fault. Lawsuit is horseshit.
.
… wasn’t addressing your “stock related” litigation ! Just saying that it’s easy to rip on the legal system and lawyers until you need them !
.
Yes, of course, I agree.
.
… although, NOW as a read a bit about the lawsuit …
… if a loved one of mine was horrifically killed or maimed by those “faulty” guard rails … I would be suing the HELL out of Trinity Industries !!!
.
It was approved by highways. It’s like blaming TRN for some jackass drinking and driving. The jury was emotional. This gets tossed out, 100%, during appeal.
.
“This gets tossed out, 100%, during appeal.”
—-
I would be VERY surprised if that happened !
.
.
… and also, juries tend to ALWAYS be “emotional” !
—–
This is why smart defense attorneys “settle” these cases BEFORE they ever GET TO A JURY !
.
I guess being innocent doesn’t enter into the equation.
By the way, welcome back Alf! Your comments are always the best, even if not always quite right!
Everything you buy, from medical care to hot coffee, is a lot more expensive because the insurance to protect these companies from horseshit bogus “negligence” is so expensive.
Also, tripling up the award is nonsense and giving the lawyers and whistleblowers so much of the award simply leads to corruption.
As well, electing judges leads to decisions based on re-election chances instead of the law, which is also corrupting.
The US Justice system really is fucked.
I come from a common law country which does not use juries for civil trials involving money.
Sorry to hear you were railroaded a bit, Dr. Fly. Do you think the possible retest of the lows on Wednesday will be a shorter or longer termed phenomenon?
The life of a railman is never without adventure.
Regarding Fly’s TRN misfortune, this is exactly why I don’t play individual stocks anymore. Index options or leveraged ETFs only for me. No headline or earnings risk.
except google, facebook, jnj, and a few others that seem to immune to those risks
