Last I checked, there was a rudimentary form of communication taking place on the “Yelp” mobile app, where users would leave commentary regarding their favorite pizza parlours. Surely, that too should be worth $20 billion, or 5x what it’s trading for now.

I’m only interested in BBRY because of there QNX in car automotive technology. But if there market cap is $5B and are trading at half book and less than 2X cash what is the company really worth when FB dished out 19B for a messenger APP. Even though only 80M people use BBM it should be worth something.
it’s only $4B for cash though. $12B in FB stock. $3B extra if the execs stay for 4 years.
If that’s true, and they did make a bad decision, they sold their stock high, and depending on the tax code and the quality of their tax lawyers and CPA, can still deduct it based upon the $19B cost basis.

If Farcebook values each Whatsapp user at $50, doesn’t this imply each Farcebook user’s value just shot higher?
Thus, Farcebook’s market cap should be revised upwards since right now the value of a Farcebook user is a paltry $100.

Several businesses around the world use WhatsApp for messaging…browse via Instagram (look at the products), arrange to buy via WhatsApp. Very low cost, more flexible than SMS, cross-platform, no giant social network appendage to deal with (e.g. Facebook/Twitter), and it’s not email. And WhatsApp (and Instagram) being used for financial/business transactions. Services teens use for social grooming are certainly interesting and important, but when you’ve got something being used in all sorts of places all over the world as a social tool *and* a marketplace, you’ve got yourself a platform and that is potentially very valuable.
