The Fury of the Seven Seas

I was up another 2.5% today, thanks to BALT. Owning close to 1 million shares, I can tell you that this pagan Xmas was rightfully bountiful. My only wish is to see the shares down a little from current levels. Bear in your small minds, BALT is the very best of the dry bulk shippers, having the very best balance sheet and market position, tethered to spot rates instead of charter.

Many of you don’t know it yet. But I bet you’re starting to pay me some mind, being that the shippers are the very best and most fashionable stocks out of all the stocks publicly traded right now.

NOTE: On Friday evening, I will be unveiling the new GARP index, for The PPT, exclusive to members and for private eyes only.

I am holding $BALT until 9$. At current rates $BALT is making more than 19 million in revenue/quarter. Look for them to post considerably in the black and increase that divvy. GLTA

I penned a quick note about it yesterday inside The PPT.

With share prices surging, debt/eq levels are improving, which in turn might lead to even higher share prices.

Only one problem with BALT, and it’s a huge problem. It was started as a subsidiary to GNK, and GNK is likely to go bankrupt. BALT is technically a separate company from GNK, but GNK still owns a huge stake in the company.

What makes you think creditors won’t come after BALT for their money? Regardless of whether they are entitled to compensation from BALT or not, the threat of litigation is and will continue to keep a lid on the value of the company.

In addition to that… If and when GNK goes under, they will need to sell their huge stake in the company, which will depress the value of shares.

Ever consider why GNK even created BALT in the first place? Creditors may claim that they created BALT with the knowledge they would go bankrupt eventually.

Yes, BALT is not liable for GNK’s debt, however, GNK could be liable for BALTs profits.

Tell me… Why is BALT sitting there with no volume traded while the entire shipping sector is going wild to the upside right now?

Why does GNK go bankrupt? If rates stay up, wouldn’t it be preferable for creditors to extend (refinance/restructure) debt so they don’t have to go through the bankruptsy process which is a huuuuge pain in the ass? (Especially when their assets are old and will continue to depreciate, let alone damn near hard to sell)

I think if GNK was going to go bankrupt, the stock would not be doing what it is now given the rumor/expectation started a month ago. If I was a creditor I would extend the debt to recoup what I could since rates remain elevated. Just my take. $BALT to 9$.

OK, my post has nothing to do with shippers or… anyway, did you notice there is a bunch of geo markets in bear territory lately – all Emerging and many others, just looked today at Turkey and Indonesia.. wow… so the question is are they leading us or lagging us.. this is something worth blogging about, specially after your dot.com memories blog from yesterday.
