Lindbergh’s isolationist view was very well known in his times, and he was the favorite potential GOP nominee among the Taft wing of the party.
yes, but this fact is scrubbed from most Lindbergh biographies. He was awarded some stupid medal from the Nazis, after viewing their air force. He became a Nazi propaganda tool.
The historians (myself, albeit merely a history buff, included) didn’t forget. Any discussion of the 1940 election on PBS or C-SPAN includes Lindbergh’s role in that election’s outcome (i.e., FDR’s unprecedented third term).
Matter of fact, even his biography page on Wikipedia has it: “Because of his trips to Nazi Germany, combined with a belief in eugenics,[134] Lindbergh was suspected of being a Nazi sympathizer.”

nothing he said in that article wasn’t true (in 1939 the U.S. was 1000% unprepared)…..U.S. entered the war based on corporate interests, as usual. The Final Solution wasn’t known at that point. Historians will also speculate that it may have been better if the U.S. hadn’t entered the war, then Russia and Germany would have battled on and Germany would have lost anyway, with Russia having also been severely weakened.

Russia, eventually. Other than taking a few Pacific islands, Japan was busy enslaving and raping its Asian neighbors. Obviously, the U.S. would have defended the Pacific if necessary. Worst case, we’d all be buying “made in Japan” these days.

Japan’s territory gains were 95% land-based in Asia, so Russia attacks them via Mongolia. Japan’s navy does them no good for that. China battles back from their end. Japan would negotiate a peace.
