Before blogging, I had suspicions that I hated people. As a kid, I’d often get into fights, agitated by small things. After taking on the venture of blogging, I’ve confirmed the fact that I literally despise humanity and would have no problems seeing it dissipate into an ocean of fire.
The Option Addict emailed me a few weeks ago, asking me why his comments section was riddled with “assholes.” I told him “it has always been like that here because people suck.” OA stopped blogging for free years ago, but once operated one of the most popular trading sites on the web. His comments section would go 200-300 comments deep, mostly filled with gentlemen with top hats and stiff canes.
Something is going to be done about the vagrancy that plagues this site. I am either going to turn off the comments section for good, and let you bastards rot in hell. Or, we are going to require that you sign up to the site, provide legit email and user name to boot.
Just know, my patience isn’t infinite and I don’t have time to police the god damned comments section, weeding out misfits who are addled with mental illnesses.

I would welcome some sort of restriction (even if it eliminated me). Valuable exchanges take place in the comments, and the ‘noise’ can make it difficult to filter.

I say leave the comments open. Somemtimes they can be very funny which adds value on a slow day. I like the idea of signing up to the site. Not a better blogger out there, it’s the least an audience could do.
Joe, if you follow the Option Addict, he adds as much content in his comments as he does in his posts, sometimes. The comments section is incredibly useful, and I’d hate to see it go away.

I just started trading this year. I’m hastily trying to learn as much as I can to be a sufficient and successful trader. I’m trying to figure out what kind of trader I want to be. Having said that I came across this site and it has been a great tool for me. A tool in learning about the market, tool in taking trades and even entertainment. The Fly’s deadpan humor has me loling at my work desk. Yea I said it “loling”

I like the idea of registration which has multiple benefits. In addition to moderating the comments section you will collect email addresses. Opt-in email content and marketing is getting hot again.
For example, you could do a weekly blog post that is distributed exclusively via email ala http://lefsetz.com. Sign up or miss out.
I think of customer acquisition like a funnel. In the case of iBC, a visitor to your blog is at the top of the funnel. Discovery of other bloggers is deeper in the funnel. Follow on twitter even deeper. Etc…
A fully subscribed PPT/12631 member is at the bottom. In between there is lot of growth opportunity.

It comes down to an old psych rule that when ever someone says something negative its because they are insecure and whatever comment is stated is what they truly feel or think of themselves at that very moment. The Real understand this and will never get rattled by the low life sess.

If you really want to restrict commenting, require login or use some service like disqus.
Implement Disqus and disable anonymous comments. Every commenter will have a Disqus profile and as such, will be less anonymous. It’s a big enough commenting platform now. Tons of large sites use it.

Removing comments it the easiest (and probably best) option, but I doubt you’ll forego all those extra pageviews.
