We all know Tim Cook is secretly working for Samsung and will be fired from AAPL inside of a year. But the question lingers in the thin air, is AAPL a buy down here?
According to The PPT, it is Oversold, on a historical basis. The last time the score was this low, the stock was sub $100.
NOTE: This is the first OVERSOLD signal in the history of PPT.

Short answer. No. Another 80 pts. Yes. Small diff. Yet large on entry point
Tim Cook says, “First!”
There’s “oversold” then there’s the lead off of the nightly news oversold. We’re close…
No. No catalyst for the stock from now until earnings. Buying opportunity when it sells off after next earnings release, pre-release of the new iphone for a quick trade.
How low the ultimate pump and dump must go is a good question.
When you ever post an exact trade is a good question
Guessing nobody else caught that part of Cook’s compensation is now tied to AAPL’s total shareholder return (filed Friday).
Expect funky accounting accruals then.
Cook sold out big time last year no? When AAPL was in the 600 realm. At this point does future compensation matter?
It’s more about the message and managing expectations. Anchoring present results to create future goals. If a lot of employees own options or stock it should help retain them because the CEO is in the boat with them and is working to secure their future. Also, 400k restricted stock units over 10 years are at risk here I believe. Could be worth upwards of $160M to him.
It’s been my experience that when companies start making a big deal about how part of their CEO’s comp is tied to shareholder return, it’s usually because that’s not obvious from the stock performance and they expect that to change soon.
>not to change soon
There was an article today about how employees of AAPL are leaving because of boredom and poor stock performance. I know the management compensation directive is a short term fix, but it’s something. Ultimately they have to leverage their economies of scale, such as through the AAPL ecosystem. They must iterate existing high ROIC products. R&D must be creative yet focused, and Cook or someone else (Jony) has to get out there and build some excitement. There were some nice signs of that at their last tech event but the other part of selling needs serious work. As noted below, their tv ads blow.
News Flash. Canadian Finance Minister asks Greek Minister for Ideas. See, we are a commodity based country and well, look at our house prices in Calgary, Vancouver Toronto (rhymes with uh oh)..
increase immigration, problem solved. Canada is more than just a commodity based economy. Will not post anymore, stick to Apple.
Wrong. All Canada has is commodities Zero. Zilch Nothing.
Riiiiiight. Keep watching CNBC.
Canadian housing bubble soon to pop !Giddy up! ( no Calgary stampede)
Hillbilly!
Off subject I know, divest your TSX. just sayin..
It’s a buy at three-fitty.
Agreud..
Le fly – does urinal shadow say FFIV goes out of biz, or gets bought ?
Canadian housing prices next domino to fall make Greeks look like small potatoes.
AAPL is a buy at 390, 375 and 355..:
Gold. Tar sands? Silver mines? Coal? Oh yea. I am liken this!
More importantly, who won Lawn Court? The tree guy or the grass dude?
The tree guy won, but offered concessions. He agreed to move the swamp oak and reduce the mound, something my landscaper insisted upon.
However, the Douglas Fir will remain near the house, much to my landscapers chagrin.
Long Canada!
We got it all!
This is a buy. The calls for AAPL’s death is premature. They own the laptop space, tablet space, and phone space. In fact, AAPL single handledly created those markets and then milked them to death. AAPL fans are die hard, if the company comes out with a new product, they will buy it!
Time to go club a baby seal..c ya!
a person can have good ideas and make bad trades. who the fuck cares?
Oh shit. Excuse me. We got THE BIEB!
It’ll be higher than here, especially when they start releasing updated products. Ipad mini has yet to release a 2nd gen. New iphones. However, the run may not be that much and one could be waiting quite awhile. I’d leave alone unless it comes in some more. Eg sub 350, maybe even 300.
Apples product cycles have matured and the era of big growth for them is over….playing a bounce is one thing, but buying them to hold is quite another. They could easily see sales decline in the next few years.
Fly, and degenerates of IBC –
Apple is a buy through 500, easily.
Free cash flow machine, 3%+ yield, top notch quality company and products.
Issue is growth and innovations. Worst case, they are a less diversified MSFT, but it feels more and more to me that this is being priced in and expected.
Also, curious to see how much they’ve been buying back.
At this point, someone may as well LBO them, assuming getting those kinds of funds was practical.
Also, they have a divvy of 3% that will be 4% should it get to $300.
Cook’s leadership can be summed up in that horrendous ad campaign they have been running. The ad has the worst viewers ratings in all of Apple’s history. It comes off as boring and arrogant…. Steve Jobs would have NEVER approved that crap.
Made the exact same comment to my wife w/o benefit of seeing the ratings. It’s abysmal.
Made the same comment to my 22 year old apple whore girlfriend.. And she said wow that really was sad..
You have a girlfriend? Unlikely. Now FO, adults are having a conversation.
Agreed, poor ads.
I don’t know!
KILL THE COOK!
If the majority in here say no I’m buying
I see a lot of eerie parallels to MS circa 2000. If true, they could drop some more, then see a significant bounce, and then flat line for a decade.
I see the hybrid score is NOT oversold and still on a sell…. heed that.
It’s always funny to me when people argue I’ve something very strongly and a guy comes buy and says “I don’t know!” neither does anyone else… Is apple a company that even an idiot could run? I suspect not… Is the move over done and does it have some support for a bounce? I suspect so. Momentum is currently still lower, but sentiment is bad…
There may be some easier trades, but I do think the reward is worth it… Timing is very important… But risk management makes or breaks the trade.
I’m crazy to even comment about $AAPL because it is not important anymore.
isn’t that wild?
exactly… time to buy, same with FB
I have this area (392-397) as a confluence of two huge fib levels that happen to coincide. IMO, that’s why we got the decent bounce off of that level. Will it bounce again? It might, but I think it’s more likely that it will head down to what I have as the next such confluence, at about 314-318.
Ok, so your hybrid score says it’s a sell, but your technicals move 25% on a 5$ move of a 400$ stock and say it’s oversold. Not sure what’s more broken: the stock or the consistency of what you’re showing.
Don’t you worry about how the scores are ranked. You can’t call it inconsistent, since the score has never been this low.
Not interested in AAPL at all really. Maybe if the options weren’t so expensive, I’d pick up some calls, but there’s just way too much premium priced into the contracts.
As a person who has owned an iPhone from day 1… this product hasn’t changed. The idiots on CNBC like to mention how AAPL will be a commodity type stock, with the flawed mentality that people will continue to purchase their products. I disagree – I’ve seen numerous cell phone manufacturers come and go, and AAPL is no less likely to be the next motorola or nokia. Hell, they literally make two products. The competition has caught up for the time being. I don’t see the long term bullish scenario anymore. There are better trades.
…. my humble opinion.
Then sell a cash secured out of the money put if premium is too expensive and you want to bet on it not going down much more.
Or do a covered call.
there are “minis” available as well if you want to write it by increments of 10shares.
workers leaving aapl as i write , good insider indication for the future
ps aapl just hinted @ its new hot next feature, a fingerprint reader. i’m amazed.
Will people think twice about their fingerprint signature becoming part of the personal information that is bought and sold?
As I understand it, right now the police capture DNA and fingerprints when they have an opportunity to. Seems kind of foolish of the general public to agree to provide such material to vendors, under the guise of “a feature”
fingerprint reader .. is this the hot NEWS?
never thought aapl was this much in pain ..
in 07 they got 850 for a phone plus a cut of revs…………
6 years later, all smart phones are similar, avg sale price 200, no cut
they’re contracts are rolling, and now they are in a very weak position
tablets, pick six, and ur price point……….no advantage there either…………
growth in sales, growth in earnings
I’ve traded it hundreds of times, I know one guy who’s made a nice living off of day trading only apple for 7 years, a correcting stock in a correcting market imho needs a catalyst, don’t see one in sight, a reason for large bears to cover, the storey at 400 was value, dividend, u got it, it popped, and no more buyers showed up, huge gains are now evaporating for a second time for large institutions, agree with 315 price point analysis
Nothing to see here. Move along.
I believe it is going to all depend on how killer or not apple ITV is. Is the innovation gone, or will this be the next move forward? I think 350 would be a gift on Apple stock price it gets there before this product release.
apple is too risky , a whore.
old McDonald had a farm with many animals making various sounds, i suspect he had rabbits, but there’s no proof . just like this market, one way or another.
itv……….TiVo, dud, imho, it’s a false flag, cable companies are extremely tech friendly now, and tv watching is still a very passive game, I seriously doubt cable companies will make mistake phone companies did with not seeing the future
Just remember what happened when AG got oversold, fly, first look for a bounce, $350’s is key, we all know you have better ideas than this.
So far the sum of 66 comments is distilled into “too big to manage!”.
Tim should grow a little facial hair. Then he could at least look a little more like Steve Jobs.
Jobs put Tim Cook in because he was super smart and did not buck him. Not the kind of guy who is going to pioneer ideas or take creative risks. Incremental improvements. They were not prepared to even produce a larger screen iphone if needed. Colossal failure.
Usually I don’t learn article on blogs, however I would like to say that this write-up very compelled me to check out and do so! Your writing taste has been surprised me. Thanks, quite great article.
