A great man once said “it’s not paranoia if everyone is really out to get you.” Although at times, I must admit, I get a little carried away with the paranoia. I tend to see things in black or white, no gray. Surprisingly, in my business life, I have few enemies, since I pick and choose my friends carefully. Back in the old days, I had tonnes of enemies. They came a dime a dozen, and went out the same way.
Ever since I started blogging, my “internet hit list” has expanded by leaps and bounds. It’s like the NFLX of hit lists, whereby it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I truly and honesty do hate many of you, invested with all of my life force. You offer nothing constructive, just fodder for my spam filter. Going into the 3rd year of iBankCoin, I have very mixed feelings about the site.
For one, the site represents a very small percentage of my income, yet takes up the majority of my time. Secondly, managing the website, with everyone’s egotistical personalities, is a drain, especially since everyone works to a different beat. My beat is stronger than others, which inherently causes friction in the form of masked jealousy. Sometimes I feel like just leaving the site to die, just to prove a point.
Lastly, I am immensely pleased to meet some really devoted and decent people here, especially my staff. We’ve manged to create some really terrific financial tools that, in turn, have created a very effective and cohesive community of investors that do not waste time talking about day trading in and out of jobs.
Why do I assault my own website?
Answer: because it’s “assaultable.” You midget babies are not worth the skin on my pet lizard, let alone this here blog. Never forget that you stupid bastards, as I am MANDATED to uphold the strictest standards known to mankind, as it is my God given right.
As an aside, here is a list of high growth laggards (past month), for your perusal (symbol, fundamental score, hybrid daily change, mkt cap, qt. rev growth, 1 month return)

That was indeed the funniest post you’ve written in a while.

I don’t mean to bring up a sore subject, but weren’t you sworn to uphold some sort of anti-cursing pledge???
Now, mind you, if its the simple fact that the multitudes that inhabit this here blog simply pushed you to your limit, or lesser still simply earned a quick lashing through their ineptitude and ignorance, then certainly most of us will understand.
In better news, I have put on my shorts for the night in crude and the e-minis. I expect to have harvested a half-percent in each afore the morn.
Where is the curse, good blind sir?
Ever thought about taking the whole damned site behind a paywall?
No.
“Going into the 3rd year of iBankCoin, I have very mixed feelings about the site.” Huh?!
I assume you mean the blog side? While its not exactly ‘my thing’ I do get many good laughs here…but I can’t imagine the amount of effort that goes into policing the loonies.
As for the PPT, I have only been around for a year and I am very impressed with how things have gone. Have I made a boatload of cash? No, but that is primarily my own stupidity and lack of knowledge (Folks its an mazing machine…but at times it has too many buttons and it takes awhile to get the hang of it).
Lastly, your earlier entries about it being the dot com bubble are exactly true. Do you know what my best trade(s) would have been 2 months ago??…to have not sold a FUCKING thing! It doesn’t matter what you own….its going to go up. Until it doesn’t. But to hold htrough times like this I guess you have to just ignore silly things like PE multilpes and any macro concerns….screw intelligent money management!!!
Anyway, either the printing press or the coke is going to run out and then you can get your revenge….until then ….well you don’t need my advice. 🙂
Why doesn’t A. Schwarz legalize and tax gay marriage?
It’s fiscally moral –

You have been castrated!
Fly,
Take this blog under pay cover.
So you know, the fly is not short.
Secondly, it is people like you who made america the sore tit that it is today. Shame on your father for getting your mother pregnant. Shame
Fly, your annual income is less than one day of my gross production.
You are a spec on the balls of the financial system.
Feel that.
I spit on your gross, small piker, bitch.
Your New Economy post has made me nostalgic for trading the dot com bubble and made me think…WTF ever happened to….Excite, Lycos, Razorfish, Go.com, Bid.com, At Home, Marimba, etc., etc., etc.? Man, I do miss those days…
Don’t forget SEEK
Plus the ones that are still around…AKAM, ARBA, YHOO…
Your mother has a penis.
Easy there Dneal
Don’t mind the incoherent comments. Some n00b was banned.
On a side note, I’m doing ok in this market, but really, not all that well. Definitely nothing to write home about. And I blame having traded through the dot com bubble. When you’ve lived through feeding caviar to your dogs on the basis of buying some ridiculous shit (like, I made over 100 grand on Corel in one day), to being abacinated by the same stocks all within a span of a few months, you have a very hard time blindly “riding” the NFLX’s of the world. And I suspect many in my situation are experiencing the same thing. If I hadn’t lived through that, I’d probably have been long 10,000 REE the last couple of weeks….
I feel your sentiments. I 100% blame the dot com bubble for making me more conservative. I was a big time gunslinger back then and would have been long all of the crap running higher today.
As an aside, I once won a large $1 bet from a certain mutual fund manager when Corel ran from $20-30 in one week. I was his intern.
How about the y2k stocks? ZIXI
I also made money shorting Corel after I saw the president of the company in a picture on thr front page of the Globe and Mail with the Corel mascot, some bear or something. I figured that had to be some kind of top…

Great stories
Thanks, I had read them before but it was a pleasure to peruse them anew. And also, it reminded me that I did enjoy getting taken out of BCST along with Mark Cuban by YHOO. Unfortunately, it was a very small position.
Similar to your story, I was a broker at the time and I had one client who lost a lot shorting these stocks. He couldn’t get past the valuations. I pleaded with him constantly to stop shorting but he wouldn’t listen. He almost got completely wiped out. Anyway, I had been a junior gold and diamond maestro in the mid-nineties until I got Bre-X’d (similar to being Imax’d a la Henry Fool) so after spinning my wheels for a couple of years, I realized I needed to master a new sector. So I made it a mission to learn everything about the networkers (hello Newbridge!) and all these “internet” stocks. I knew them all inside and out and man, did that pay off.
Bre-X? Fuck, I thought I was the only guy here who remembered that one. A scam of Madoffian proportions, and if there was ever an argument for owning the physical commodity rather than paper interest in a miner thereof, Bre-X was it.
“Abacinated” and then “blindly” riding Netflix! Did you do that on purpose?
Oh, bravo.
A Gene Wolfe fan, perhaps?

Hahaha, no I didn’t. Good one on catching that. Actually, it’s a Slayer reference on my part.
You had tonnes of enemies? Were you in England back in the day?
As a matter of fact I was.
I feel blessed to have begun this journey in 2001. Never got warped by the go go era.
I hope that doesn’t make me a punk ass kid.
“… the site represents a very small percentage of my income, yet takes up the majority of my time.”
Good heavens, man….no wonder you are conflicted.

Never mind all that… it’s AV night at Jake’s blog! And in keeping with our theme running towards the iBankCoin Election Extravaganza, we ask:

It does make you a punk kid. So sorry.
Better than being over 47.5 (no offense old crowd)
If the net benefits of this blog were negative [I know – no such thing as negative benefits] ; you’d drop it in a minute.
Yes, a huge effort and commitment, but you would never have met some good people without the reach this provides.
And as you’ve stated, it holds your feet to the fire.
I’m the opposite. Probably more bad than good. I rarely think people are out to get me; just focused on themselves.
Lots of grey. Next to no enemies.
the “masked jealousy” seems plain as day at times
todays posts were of high quality.

Remember global light telecom? I lost millions in that one
No, that one doesn’t ring a bell. The networkers/telecom I traded a lot were Newbridge, Nortel, Juniper, Lucent, Corvis, GST, Conexant, Sycamore, 360 and probably a couple more I don’t remember.
Don’t forget Cascade and US Robotics…..
Sycamore still kept theit secondary cash from bubble levels, which is why they have a bill in cash and do like 100 mill in rev. Lol
lol…I didn’t even know Sycamore still existed. Last time I traded it was 10 years ago.
Enemies…. was that Obama recently talking about his “enemies”? Obama to latinos: “punish our enemies.” Not since Nixon has there been an enemies list. Some nice, conciliatory ‘loyal opposition’ type talk may be called for.

We should all get hoverounds, instead
Of walking. Apparently they are free.
Scmr is a compelling story.
Check their balance sheet. They did a secondary when the stock was 3,000. Lol. 1-10 reverse split since then. They never spent a dime.
OK OK has anyone ever done the analysis of RMB/USD USD/CNY and how its movement effects other pairs or markets…ever since Fly posted that great PTJ article I have been fixated on what Paul is seeing when he watches it. Since then I found out it has a daily fixing at 9pm est…but what the heck does it effect…still looking around……………………..For todays action, yep indicies came back, but did you notice the advance -decline volume NYSE was moving down………..For Flys post above, I am glad Fly does this site….makes this darn junkie happy….thank you.
“Paranoids are not paranoid because they’re paranoid, but because they keep putting themselves, fucking idiots, deliberately into paranoid situations.”
– Thomas Pynchon, Gravity’s Rainbow.
I slept through most of spring’s 40-point-a-day rally, sat out the summer and through dumb luck, managed to find myself fully long into September’s bullshit rally, and yes, not only do I feel paranoid, I feel like a fucking idiot. If I had any sense I’d sell half my shit, write calls against the other half, and just go to sleep at night. But no, I hold shit through earnings and FDA hand-grenadage, and chase random takeover rumors hoping to bat at least .250 on it. YTD +10%, but it’s only through the PPT that I’ve found the winners that have eclipsed the losers, and only through my stupidity that despite this edge, I still look on my 2010 record as a testament as to what not to do.
All this talk about paranoia. Bullshitters claiming QE2 will solve everything, bearshiiters claiming that foreclosurefuckerygate is the end of the world.
“If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don’t have to worry about answers.”
– So I’m still on a Pynchon kick tonight.
Which brings me to the story of the day. A co-worker asked me what the hell he should be trading, on account of he’d sat out the past couple of weeks amidst macro worries. I told him that it didn’t matter what he traded, as long as he limited it to 5% of his account value and put a stop at 5% of that 5%. Trade anything, dude, just promise me you’ll place just one trade in the morning, and close it out by the end of the day. Fuck the Bearded Clam, fuck the fundamentals, tuck the fechnicals, fuck the bearshiiters, buck the fullshitters. Trade with the awareness that your counterparty is a broken robot, but trade anyways.
(He blogged for a megabyte, and when he looked back, noticed there was only one set of f-bombs etched in the silicon. He asked us where his readers were in his megabyte of self-imposed restriction. We turned to him and said “When the Dow was over 10,000? That’s when we cussed for him”.)
Very good EQ!

You are a great story teller so I hope you continue….
Despite your scarcasm(which I love) you are not preaching to only idiots…
