What if the Fed judiciously decides to wait another month before voting QE2? That would be just the jolt the USD requires, pulling back the palamino reins of the SPX.
If qe2 us delayed, that gives us more time to say “qe2 is coming,” effectively derailing ALL bad news.
AA mentioned weakness in the beverage industry pertaining to aluminum demand but aside from that DPS just completed a licensing deal to KO (previously distributed by CCE) for a cool $715M which the company says will go towards a share repurchase program over the course of its contract. They also were upgraded on 9/24 based on valuation. Free cash flow has jumped 5x year over year leaving alot available to buy back shares, issue a larger divi, or do other cool shit. There is also potential for a takeover here given its ability to print cash and be attractive enough for licensing. KO, you’ve already dipped your toe in the fountain…
Risk/Reward looks decent and the 200-day is ready to jap it higher.
The Fed said that they would extend their portfolio duration instead of letting MBS runoff, but haven’t said anything about definite QE2. The talk of it boosts the bond market and wags the tail of equities but long term bonds I feel are over speculated via QE2 talk. If the inflation data at the end of the week comes in stronger than before (hello commodities and weaker dollar), this should let long term bonds sell off because of the decrease in real yields and exclusion of influence from the Fed on the end of the curve. Also, as MBS run off duration is added back to the market and dampens a decline in yields, although that is a longer term aspect. Hence, I’m long TBT from this morning and added after FOMC minutes.
