When it does, I will try to make some coin on the downside. If I don’t, I will die trying.
Seeing late day weakness, ahead of tomorrow’s economic data, makes me want to sell some stocks. But then I realize how small minded I am being, by making a fucking mountain out of a small mole hill. Index gaps ALWAYS get filled
Maybe but not necessarily in the short term time frame. It can happen a year, two years down the road… nobody knows. Trading the index betting on gap close is a sure way to go broke.
The only reason index gaps get EVENTUALLY filled is because they tend have a lower STD then most stocks (since they are composed of a basket of stocks, by definition they will have lower peaks and higher troughs than the majority of stocks in that basket), this means that consolidation periods will frequently happen, the crux however is that you have no idea when that period will occur.

I like the Smith and Wesson M&P .40 cal. Very fast and accurate. Not much kick, but packs a lot of punch.
Some of the Seals I know won’t touch anything but a glock, but they tend to think like a one man army.
You can take a Glock anywhere, and I imagine they don’t appreciate jamming issues.
I am told by those more expert than me that the Sig Sauer P226 is the stopper of choice for a gentleman.

Target said in their conference call that earnings were particularly strong in women’s apparel and shoes. DSW has a 31% short position (4.4M) on only 13M shares of the float, where there are 44M outstanding. Its P/E and FPE are inline with the industry at 14 and 12, respectively, and its ROE and ROI are respectable. Earnings next Tuesday, August 24.

I’m a little impatient, but when the markets eventually go back to valuations below book value like he says, my Go-Go Juice screener in the PPT should have well over 1,000 names showing up. When major banks are selling at 40% – 50% of book value, and the undervaluation gets to an extreme, and pessimism is rampant, then the idea of “buying and holding” stocks for the long term will make sense again. That, in my mind, should come only at or near the bottom to all this. Technically, the bottom should come after a 100% or more, fibonacci retracement from the March 09 lows.
Until then, it’s my opinion that right now, people should only be trading with “play money” , or money they can afford to lose in the market, and with a short term time horizon, at that. The bulk of the serious “investment” money should be parked in bonds and/ or cash through this deflationary part of the cycle. But I have my biases, probably because I’m a steward of other people’s money.
Walks, and sandwich eating should be more frequent activities during the times we’re in.
