And this is why I hate the VIX, despite liking it as a hedging tool. They call it the volatility index but base it on the implied volatilities of S&P index puts/calls etc. There should be a true volatility or variance type index that measures the number of and amplitude of swings on an absolute basis. That is true volatility in my opinion, not something based off of what traders are pricing in options. I would say a day like today was incredibly volatile but the VIX compressed. Go fuck a Faberge egg.

I took my wife to a fancy restaurant downtown for our 9 year anniversary last night. Hungry and full of love, we rolled up and parked around the corner. As we pulled into our spot, we look over and see a dirty homeless guy about 10 feet away, pissing through a fence. The smell of urine was strong and horrendous, however the dinner which followed was truly amazing. It felt a little like this most recent VXX trade, with a little suffering up front. That being said, I’ve never had a bad meal at Le Fly’s. In fact, Fly paid for our dinner last night.
