That game I speak of pertains to securities manipulation on a grand scale, the largest ever known in the history of exchanges. If they are successful, we shall see lower stock prices, which in turn will motivate money managers to participate in treasury auctions—effectively keeping a lid on rates.

Today was a promising start, with the T auction a train wreck. Tomorrow will be interesting with GDP and consumer sentiment. I am heavy in the VXX along with you.
A question: I saw LVS topping yesterday, know implicitly that gaming hotels ( at least domestically) are sucking wind, so I put a bracketed short on at $22, with a target of $21 at least. Had a hard stop at a couple cents north of an intermediate high from midday. This morning as the stock was rising premarket, I moved the stop up to $.12 above the high of the year ( which occurred yesterday and why I wanted to short the PIG). On the open, the price shot to EXACTLY my stop, 12 cents above the high of the year the day before, then retracing back to where I thought it was going anyway (without me). A real PISSER. Can/do the market makers actually pick on a single order? Can they do that? I was holding 3000 shares, not a huge position. just trying to rationalize my complete fucking disdain for the day….

As I understand it, yes. Don’t put in a hard stop. Did the price tick at your price actually contain the same size as your order? A stop order (which is basically a market order) gives specialists/MM’s license to steal from you. In fact, you beg them to, especially with a large size order compared to the volume in the specific name.

Frayed- please consider joining the PPT (even if you just sign up for a month to try it)– very supportive (and too funny) community — we all help each other with questions like this and questions on various stocks etc.–(and yes Fly is on the threads with us) as an overthinker it helps me keep moving forward, even if it’s to clarify that I don’t want to trade that day (week) due to market conditions.

When you say join the PPT, do you mean this blog or another? I will try it… you might need another very skeptical, and recently impatient bear.

The PPT is both the unique engine that fly developed over a long time (then made live w sub offering beginning of last year) and the community that uses that engine (and shares trades, research, breaking news, ideas, humor, encouragement, advice, teaching– on a user board that is our version of a chat room/active thread.). I forgot that many people visiting this site may not be familiar with it or the history.

1) Don’t set hard stops without a wide range, better yet just don’t do it period. Everyone sets stops in the same places and the market makers just collect them for fun.
2) LVS did a major breakout and is still full of win for the long side. Let the pattern break before shorting it. Don’t be a TIM!

Today had a very similar feel to Feb 5th. But the opposite of course.
VIX held strong on today’s upside, then popped hard on the decline. Bought DIA Puts into close. I’ll be surprised if there is no follow through, but I guess nothing should surprise me in this throw-a-dart market environment.
